The simile poem below was a homework assignment given to me by my reading teacher. We were to choose our two subjects, make similes about them, in 15 lines or more. The last line had to end with "But my heart goes to" and then one of the subjects. It was like this because in class we had finished readind a simile poem by Eve Marium titled, Simile: Willow and Gingko.

Simile: Light and Darkness
Light is like a butterfly,
Peaceful and graceful.
Then darkness is peaceful as any war,
Dangerous and ferocious.
Light is like a child,
Sweet and true.
Darkness is like a troublemaker,
Untrustworthy and mutinous.
Darkness is like the abyss,
Dark, black and cold.
Light is like the sun,
Bright, warm, and beautiful.
The darkness of any heart is cruel as old man winter,
Harsh, unforgiving, and spiteful.
Light is like Mother Nature,
Benevolent, sincere and placid.
The light shines through every crack;
Like a child wondering where you’re at.
Hidden amongst the trees,
Swaying in the noon breeze.
My eyes long to gaze into the light,
But my heart goes to darkness.
