How about a story where the main character is deathly afraid of where she needs to be and what needs to be done..... with a terrifying being to guide her, she works through her own fears and 'saves the day'. A world swallowed by darkness? Overrun with wild dogs? With Beasts?
This can't be happening.
She crouched in the alley behind a pile of old newspapers, huddled against the rough stone wall. She wrapped her arms around her knees to willed herself to stop shaking, but she knew from past experience that she was too far gone for logic to bring peace. The confused babble of the villagers was a malicious reminder of what was to come. She could feel her mind leaving her, and before she succumbed to The Panic, she thought, Surely someone will know what to do. When I wake up, this will all be over.....
