Marching band is almost over where I live. Yay, no more getting up early!! Band has been terrible this year. We got a new Director that was fresh from college and has no idea of how to work a marching band. Two weeks after school started we got new music because the other was 'to hard' to play, tho I think it was fine music. We are high scholars not elementary or middle school kids it would have been fine, tho there were a lot of freshmen this year. Said band director like to make up move like his backwards forward march, which in all is a slide that you do backwards. It's really stupid and I don't do it at all. About two weeks before homecoming we got our first drill, it took two weeks to learn, and afterwards we got the rest right before state contest. it was terrible, people are all off foot, we can't remember most of our moves, and the band in general is off when playing the songs and marching, and we used flip books for contest. We learned the last drill a few days before contest Then we went to Contest and marched on a fake, plastic field. It was freezing. by the time we went on field my instrument was frozen and very little sound could be heard. When it was done and over my hands and arms were numb, didn't even know I was holding my instrument, nearly dropped it. After all the pain and suffering we got a rating of 3 (lowest score you can get). I was surprised, I thought that we would get a 4, disqualified because you suck way too much or you have a major penalty.
