sweatdrop Well, it's not my first day of school, but my brother's. And this is more about his chemistry homework than his first day back. Anyway, this is chemistry guys. I'm working on getting a chemistry degree so naturally I'm interesting-er intersted... ninja
He had to two glasses of equal temperature and volume, but one was filled with tap water and the other filled with salt water. Lastly, a single icecube was placed into each of the glasses. Which one would melt first and why?
I, along with my father, a chemist, thought that it was the salt water, but I was WRONG!!!
Curious, I ran the experiment myself a few more times only to get the same answer over and over. After taking many observations and notes I finally just did some research on the internet, including a children's website..."Highlight's Magazine"! WOO!
Wanna hear the answer? This is the website I went too and found the answer: http://van.physics.uiuc.edu/qa/listing.php?id=1662
After figuring it out...I ran another test and everything checked out! It all made sense!!! *chuckles* I had to laugh at my own obsession of this little experiment, but now I'm that much more intelligent now eh? Such a simple answer...yet I was thinking on more difficult terms...but my father said that this little experiment relates to "Fluid Dynamics" an area in Chemical Engineering! hmm...so to the future Chemical Engineers who have read this...you are now ahead of the curve...and to the rest of you...you can now freak people out with your knowledge! blaugh
I know this was kinda...geeky...but well, hey. I'm a geek! xd And proud! Geek pride! 8D
