Randomness....
Whatever I want to put in here...
labor day chaos
I was hoping to post something a little more positive today considering the holiday. My family reunion was this weekend so we spent a good amount of time there, hanging out and eating too much, as is the norm for my group, then roasting some marshmallows at the fire (we're all firebugs and make a bonfire every time we get together). We then went back to Wynn's parent's house and watched a fireworks show on television. I was hoping to focus on that stuff, but considering what I found out about the RNC today I think I'd rather go ahead and move onto that instead. It's just troubling to a large degree.

If anyone does end up reading this and doesn't know about the events, there have been several raids on homes of members of protest groups as well as unlawful (as far as I can tell) arrests of journalists, specifically the host of Democracy Now!, Amy Goodman and two of her producers. What's most troubling about this news however is the fact that it's being largely undiscussed by mainstream media. CNN, C-span, Fox news... no one's covering that aspect of the events. All that's being said is about the violent protesters that have been arrested. So far The uptake has good broadcasting on this, but it's been rather difficult to glean information aside from their news broadcasts, which have slowly tapering over time. The Lawyers guild as well as the American civil liberties union are handling some of the cases, so that gives one hope. Unfortunately Gustav is bearing down on Louisiana right now so alot of the attention is on them. Of course, they need to be kept in mind right now, it's just bad that both things are happening at the same time.

::Update:: the three journalists from Democracy Now have been released. Glen Greenwald over at Salon.com has updated videos and pictures, as well as an interview with Amy Goodman, along with a video of her arrest.

Oh well, Happy Labor Day to anyone that reads this. And thanks to all the people who make life normal every day by heading out into the work force. Teachers, truckers, accountants, they're all important in the grand scheme of things and it's a shame that they aren't told that enough. To the American worker: I salute you... or at least send you a big glomp.
