War of Emortals
Chapter 1:
He sat staring at the grave of his beloved. Two hundred years had past and every second had become nothing less of agonizing torture. He sat and let the tears come to his eyes and run down his cheeks. He had been given immortality as a gift, but it was nothing but a curse. He had seen it all, had it all, but now he wanted it to end. He griped the handle of his sword, the blade shining in the silver moonlight, and lifted himself to his feet. He wrenched the cold steel from the earth and sheathed it on his back. He stood for a moment staring again at his beloved's tomb. She had been blessed with the mercy of death, but not him. For eternity he would rome alone, with only her memory in his heart.
"I know this is a difficult time for you David but the council summons you."
He turned his head slightly to the angel standing behind him."Can't you see that I'm busy Julien? Or does an immortal have no time to morn? Must I spend every second of my life serving the damn council?"
Julien let him finish his rant before continuing."I know her death was hard on you, but the work of the lord does not stop just because one life is lost. You have been given the gift of immortality so that you may prove yourself worthy. After all it was you who sold yourself to him for her!"
David could feel his blood begin to boil."Yes, I sold my self to the devil himself just so I could be with her and now I pay with misery and pain for eternity!" He calmed himself and turned to fully face Julien."Very well take me to them."
Julian stretched out a single perfected hand. David took the angels hand and immediately was standing in the presence of the council. It was they who controlled the holy immortals and decided where they were needed most. Seven embodiments of the holy lord himself and each of them shone brighter than the sun. He put his hand to his eyes and knelt on one knee.
Their voices were loud yet kind all at once and they talked in unison." We have need of your services David. You have been called to go to the americas in search of the demon Horace."
David rose to his feet."Do you except this task David Noble-heart?"
David nodded and recited the proper response."I agree on my own free will to take this task in the name of the Lord all mighty. I shall seek out this demon and silence him." and with that David found himself once again standing over his lover's grave. He knelt down one last time and laid a single rose over it."Sorry love, duty calls."
*************
Twelve hours later he arrived in the americas. The country was filthy and David could feel each and every toxin in the air. People, or at least the majority, were nothing but polluting parasites. Doing absolutely nothing except running around trying to achieve as much as possible in their short meaningless life spans. He walked around the polluted streets until he came upon an abandoned building.
The place stunk of urine and vomit and David shook his head in disgust as he made his way through what might have been an apartment at one time. He stopped when he entered a room that still had a door on it. closing the door and kneeling down he reached into his pocket and produced a piece of chalk. Chanting as he went he began to draw a cross with a star above it.
"It is your humble servant that calls you now oh lord! I need to know the face of my enemy, I need to know where he lays." Then, reaching back into his pocket, david produced a small vial of lambs blood and poured it onto the cross and star. He concentrated as visions of his enemy flowed through his mind. He saw a great statue of a woman and a torch. He saw the demon in the form of a crippled old man. He now knew where he had to go and what his foe looked like. After erasing the chalk, disposing of the empty vial, and offering a small prayer of thanks David began his trek to the city called New York.
