Burby Went Home Today
Well, since the infection in his beak has cleared up, and the amount of s**t in the house is getting kinda high, it was decided to bring Mr. Burby back out to the coop. I brought Milton along, just to see if he could make it with the others. He and Mr. Burby really bonded during the time they were together. Just a few nights ago Milty tried to sleep on Burby's back. I'm pretty sure Burby got a shock outta that.
Things didn't turn out so well. Florian immediately went into attack mode and started pecking Milton in the face. Even after I pushed Florian outside, the other birds started picking on him. Mr. Burby didn't step in to help, which saddened me. Eventually he ran and hid behind the feed barrel.
Marcie still has an enlarged toepad. Not sure why that is. I really hope nothing's in there that can't be taken out. It doesn't seem sensitive. Lately I've taken to looking for toe-balls in the birds ever since I pulled a huge on out of Stella's toes. It was really grotesque.
As I was sitting down, Butter came over and started to make a nest on my left side. She eventually laid an egg there. It reminded me of the time that Powderpuff laid an egg in my hands. She was at home for some reason or another, and at the time, she jumped up on the couch on a pillow with her rear end facing me. At first, I thought she was just going to poop, but when I saw the egg starting to come out, I held my cupped hands under her and she laid in right in my hands. For me, it was breathtaking. Usually hens put up a fuss and sit down to lay their eggs, but for some reason, Powder didn't this time. It was sheer luck that I happened to be there.
Lucy has only three goslings now. We're not sure what happened to the other two. The remaining ones are doing fine. Ozzy has stepped up to the roll as Dad, which is nice.
Milty is at home now, and his future is uncertain. If he can't get along with other chickens, what can be done? He can't stay at home, that's for sure. Hopefully, he'll be able to stay with Mr. Burby after the Turkens are shown at the fair.
