There were moments when Elektra seriously considered the possibility that Shaka had been placed in her life as some kind of divine punishment. She wasn't sure what she had done to deserve the cold, humorless, emotionless b*****d that she was forced to call her teacher, but it must have been something awful indeed. Maybe she had tried to kill Athena in a past life. Maybe she had killed Athena in a past life. After a while it occurred to her that one thing she did know about the evil b*****d was that he was practically a god himself. Why not just ask? Then she remembered that the last time she had asked him a stupid question she had lost her ability to speak and hear for a week. But now, curiosity was getting the better of her. It was become hard to concentrate on her meditation, which was difficult at best on the best of days, and even the simple things like helping Aphrodite with his garden and keeping track of Daichi were suffering. Finally, exasperated with listening to his charge constanly fidget and after a good, long lecture from Saga, Aldebaran, and Aioria on the proper care and feeding of children, Shaka asked what was bothering her. She took a deep breath, braced herself for whatever punishment would come, and asked, "What god did I piss off to get stuck with you?" If there was one thing that amazed Elektra, it was that Shaka, though almost entirely deviod of emotional expression, was very good a flat looks. "Strange," he replied, "I often find myself wondering the same thing."
