Sure enough, halfway through the show, they had an interview with AFI running. I didn't really know who they were at the time, and they seemed kind of crazy at first, but I watched the interview anyway.
After the interview ended, I just sat there in a trance. After a few minutes, my mom came over and asked me what was wrong, and I totally disregarded her presence and flatly said, "They just don't make guys like that anymore."
Of course she had no idea what I was talking about. She hadn't seen the interview, so of course, she asked what I was talking about, and I looked at her appalled and said, "That really hot guy who just did an interview on Much. Did you see him? Oh my sour Taylor mom, you should've seen him!"
After that, I jumped onto my computer and went straight to LimeWire and downloaded a song by AFI to put on my iPod.
Five months later, I'm a huge AFI fan.
Most of you who know me have been told that story, and you know I'm in mad love with Davey Havok, but what no one knows really is why I love him. Well, ponder no more, because I'm about to tell you.
First off, this is Davey, for all of you people who don't know him:

Here we go.
I love Davey because he's a beautiful man. He looks like something not even a higher power could create. His looks alone makes you want to ******** him. Seriously, if you find a guy that's sexier then Davey, I'll kill myself with a chopstick. I guess you could say it's his eyes. They're deep and dark, and they cloud with a mist of mystery, like you can learn all you want about him, but there's always something you'll never know. Some horrifying secret that threatens all those curious with a flesh eating discomfort. Something more poison to the human soul then black blood cut from unwilling veins. It's like a seductive death, in a way. You feel drawn to him, but you also feel a wave of caution, as if at any moment, your life could end. It's that emotion that draws me to him.
Another reason I love Davey is his personality. He's an honest, kind, funny, smart, open, philosophic guy with a big heart and no worry of what people think of him. He can be secretive sometimes, but for the most part, he'll talk about anything he can relate to. His openness is not always true, but welcome. The best part is that he's not only kind, but he's smart. I am to this day shocked by how intelligent he is. Something else that draws me to him.
I also love that he can make any situation funny. He always seems to come up with the right words at the right time, and never the wrong ones when they're not needed, and how he can pick the right tone for everything he says is like a Nirvana.
Which brings me to another not, his voice. His voice is like the sound of a loon. It's a beauty that can never be repeated, nor plagiarized by anyone. Whether he's singing to rock, goth or electronica, or even just speaking, nothing could ever sound better then his voice. It's the music of an angel, and it mesmerizes me.
As a fledgling musician, Davey is my music idol when it comes to vocals. His work and his story has inspired me to continue on with my vocal journey, and his work with AFI has changed so many aspects in my life. AFI's music even helped me change my mind about suicide in my darker days, and I am forever in debt. I have Davey and the guys of AFI to thank for everything, and Davey is by far my favorite person alive.
Davey's thirty-two on November 20th, and I wish him a long, successful rest of his life, and I hope he finds the woman of his dreams someday, if he hasn't already met her.
