A Midnight Prelude
The pain was excruciating as she clenched the knife in her hand. She sat with her legs folded awkwardly underneath her. Her raccooned eyes were glazed with unshed tears as memory after horrible memory replayed in her mind. The guilt and anger filled her heart, making feel like it was being squeezed in an iron vice grip. She dragged her limp arm across the floor towards herself, her dull eyes glinting vaguely with intent. Lifting her hand slowly above her head, the crashing down on her other hand. Blood gushed over her hand and knife as she dug it in deeper. She grit her teeth, then gasped as she painstakingly slid the knife out. Shivers crawled up her spine as the agony from her heart was outed by the pain in her hand. Her hand curled and she raised to the front of her face. She chuckled. A grotesque smile stretched across her face, eerily splitting her face in half. Her tears fell quickly, dripping down her face and onto her hand. The salty tears mixed with blood and dripped onto the already spreading red puddle. She laughed some more them froze. The smell of blood flooded the air, coppery warmth. She waited with bated breath, her head tilted, listening. She gasped in air, hearing the sound of movement to her bedroom door. She stared at the door with apprehension, like it was a bomb.
The door slowly opened and gently hit the wall.
".....Lucias.."
Her whispered breathlessly as her eyes rose up to his shadowed face. He slithered closer reaching out a hand.
"What have you done," his voice calm as his fingertips brushed her hand. She jerked back, her head rapping harshly against the wall. She turned her head, her hair falling into her face.
"...just go..," she croaked out, her lips dry as she breathed heavily. He just ignored her request, circling around her, his tail coiling underneath him.
"Why do you do this," his voice sickeningly blank. She sighed, shifting around, facing him.
"Why ask, you don't care," her tone bled defeat, her eyes staring passed him to the other wall.
"Your right, I do not care what do to yourself, but I am not the one you should worry about," he said, one of his hands waving towards the door.
"You won't tell her."
"I won't have to, if you continue."
She shrugged, then held up her arm, not a trace of the cut left, except for some dried blood.
"Doesn't matter, problem resolved."
Lucias held out a hand, and she grabbed it, pulling herself up.
"I wasn't trying to help you up," he said, trying to tug his hand back. She held his hand tight and leaned forward, her face inches from his.
"I know," she gave him a soft smile, "...you have pretty eyes, don't hide them."
She kissed his cheek and let his hand go, then walking past him.
"Wait..," Lucias calmly called after her, he held his hand out again. She turned and placed the knife in his hand, clean of blood. He slid it into a pocket.
"Sorry for borrowing your stuff, but it cuts very nice," she jerked open the window, and stepped on the ledge, poised on the edge of it. Large tawny wings unfurled and spread out from her back, shadowing her face. Lucias cocked his head.
"...Like a fallen angel....like Uriel," he murmured. She flinched, then turned her head, looking at him with a sad smile and arching a brow.
"I'm no angel," then Owl jumped.
