Dude, ******** Nazis.
Went to D.C. on a field trip today. Getting up at 3:45 in the morning in order to get to school at 4:30 was pretty d**k. The trip sucked, but since we paid for a charter bus, we were able to watch Zoolander on the way up there. I brought a pillow and a blanket with me, so it was pretty bearable. I got the whole bus to sing Bohemian Rhapsody when we finally got into the city, although I'm not sure why.
We visited the Library of Congress, which was pretty lame. It was just a bunch of old people shuffling around and talking about how kids our age weren't allowed to touch the books. Then we went to the International Spy Museum, which would have been cool if my stomach wasn't trying to digest itself (I had only eaten a granola bar on the way out the door, as I was under the impression that we were stopping to eat). I pretty much raced to the end of the little maze they had set up and got to the "Spy Cafe" which was PACKED with little Catholic schoolchildren. I got my chicken wrap and a Bawls and sat down, only to find that the wrap was utterly disgusting and ended up throwing it out and eating off of my friends' pizza.
We left there and went over to the National Holocaust Museum, which was really the best part of the trip. It was so bittersweet, though. I honestly don't think I've cried that much within two hours in my entire life. The s**t that I learned in there will stick with me for a lifetime... I honestly wasn't really affected until we got to this room filled with the shoes that the Nazis had forced the Jews to remove right before they were gassed. It's just horrible to think about, even now. All those people took off their shoes without even knowing what was about to happen to them; it's mortifying. I was okay for the rest of the tour, until we got to the last room. They had this big Eternal Flame going in the center of the room with candles lit all around the circumference of the dome and all of the names of the death camps carved above them. My buddy Matt and I started bawling like babies when we went in there. It was just overwhelming.
So, ******** Nazis.
