It came without anyone knowing, especially Prince. A carefree youth wandering around the park as usual, who was going to have a picnic with his friend Shinya. It was a regular sunny day with white fluffy clouds that resembled cotton candy. Prince would enjoy this, sitting with his friend and eating tasty food from sandwiches to a candied apple. Today was a special day, his friend Shinya was off from work and made time just for him. His lover Hiroko was at home painting, and Yang, Anlil, and Aki were all busy doing something else. Therefore he got to spend one on one time with Shinya which he was glad for because he rarely ever got to spend quality time with his shoulder length black haired friend.
When he got there many people were sitting around lazily, doing there own things ranging from knitting to eating lunch. Prince strode along the nicely cut green grass, wiggling his feet in their new comforting shoes, he had just bought black boots and were getting used to them. They were a little big on his feet, but he did not mind. They looked awesome, and he would probably grow into them. Averting his gaze, which were focused on his feet at the moment he used them to glance around the park for his friend Shinya. He could not find Shinya at the moment, yet when he neared the river that the park surrounded he found what he was looking for. Shinya was standing there by the river in a crowd of people, who were all staring at something. Prince could not see what all of them were staring at, so he scurried over to where Shinya was. “What are you looking at?” He asked raising a delicately arched eyebrow. His six foot tall slim frame slouched forward a little as he stuck his pale skinned hands into his loose pants pockets. “That…” Shinya said, pointing a long finger towards the thing everyone was staring at in awe and wonder. Prince followed Shinya’s finger, and saw where Shinya was pointing. It was some kind of slimy looking thing hanging on its tail below a bridge. Prince’s mouth gaped open in amazement. “Oi…Oi Shinya…what is that thing? Is it a bat or something…a giant bat?” He asked as he nudged Shinya in the side. Shinya shook his head. “I think it is a bat fish, or maybe it’s some kind of new animal!” He said smiling as he focused his warm brown eyes on Prince for a few seconds. The animal looking thing suddenly unraveled itself, diving straight into the river water. To Prince it looked sleek and had a thin tail like a whip. It was kind of like a fish and a tadpole mixed together he thought. Prince did not really know what to think, although he knew he got the better view of the “thing” more than anyone else because of his height. Six foot tall with a slim yet slightly muscular frame, he was considered a beauty amongst men. Since he was so tall he easily towered over all the other people, including Shinya. He had a nice view of the creature. As the creature splashed into the water, many gasps were heard throughout the crowd. Everyone was now watching the creature swim in the water, its dark shape swimming with ease through the water. The shape stopped in the river, in front of the crowd Prince was in but many feet away. Everyone stared, wondering what the thing would do next. A person took a step forward, he had a tray that had unopened cans of seven up and slice of pizza on it. The man hesitated, then picked up a seven up can and chucked it as hard as he could into the water. The can sunk into the water, then popped back up onto the surface. It floated there for a few seconds, when suddenly the tail of the creature lashed out and snatched the can, drawing it into the water. Prince let out a small gasp, which merged into the other gasps that the crowd let out of their mouths. Almost immediately afterwards, people started throwing food and random things into the water, amazed with the feat that the creature played, wanting to see it again. Prince felt a little uneasy. Something…weird was up. The creature in the water could be dangerous, even though at the moment it seemed good. There was still a chance of the creature being some kind of monster. Prince shook the uneasy feeling off. Right now it was a day with nice weather that he was spending with one of his closest friends. He was supposed to be happy, not worrying about small things such as this. He waited for the creature to grab some more of the food thrown into the water, but instead it sunk deeper into the water and disappeared. Many “Awwwwwws” echoes throughout the crowd. Prince turned to Shinya and smiled. Everyone was chattering happily.
“That was so awesome!” He said letting out a laugh. “Yeah! I really wonder what it was.” Shinya answered. As Shinya started talking some more, Prince noticed the man who was the first person to pick up the Seven Up can and throw it into the water was staring at him with wide eyes filled with…fear? Prince eyebrows furrowed, he focused directly on the other mans face, following where the other man was staring. The man was staring behind him, not at him. Prince realized that Shinya had stopped talking too. Prince quickly twisted his head towards his right, where everyone was staring. His eyes immediately went wide in shock too. The creature that was in the river was sprinting on land! It had a huge sleek muscular body with multiple fins running across its back and its long tail. Its mouth was open, revealing six sets of jaws with an uncountable number of serrated sharp teeth on each jaw. It was fast, running on four ever moving legs with sharply clawed feet, this creature was a predator. Not only that it was hunting prey…it was hunting human prey. He saw the monster ram its head into a human, causing them to tumble forwards. It ran over him, Prince saw its feet crush the human underneath its weight. The monster headed straight towards the crowd Prince was in, targeting the large number of people for it could get prey easier that way. Prince could feel the ground rumbling underneath his feet as the monster drew closer, he could feel the human hands and shoulders rubbing against him as they ran backwards, passing him. Prince tried to move, but he was so shocked at this new creature he did not know what to do. His feet felt like they were cemented to the ground. His eye widened, the monster drew nearer and nearer, he knew that once it reached close enough it would crush his body in its jaws, and his own life would end. Suddenly, he felt something jerk on his arm and pull himself backwards. He twisted his head around just enough to see Shinya, his friend, dragging him upwards towards the top of the hill. Prince twisted his body around so that he could walk behind Shinya at a sprinting pace. He now could run, thanks to his friend. Shinya tried his best to keep hold onto Princes arm and pull him up the hill, he succeeded, yet the monster was so close behind that Prince could hear its breathing and feel its warm breath on his back.
“RUN!” Shinya roared as he pulled Prince forward again. Prince sprinted along beside Shinya. Both Shinyas and Princes eyes were filled with fear. The monster, out of all the people in the park, was closest to them. It was focused on them and them only. Although it tried to catch them, Prince and Shinya were both fast runners. They ran past a lady who was listening so loudly to music that she did not hear what was going on, plus she was not paying attention. So stuck in her work she did not notice Prince and Shinya rush past her. She turned around just in time to see the monster suddenly grab her head and slam her down onto the ground, dragging her body along the ground a few feet with its clawed foot. Shinya glanced back just to see the monster let go of the girl that it was dragging along as it ran. The monster, suddenly veered and changed its course. Instead of going after the two, it chased after another woman. Shinya stopped running as he watched the monster chase after the other woman. The woman ran up the steps towards a trailer, yet the trailer doors closed right when she reached the trailer car. Before the monster could ram into her, she leapt over the railing and landed on the ground, causing the monster to ram into the trailer doors smashing them inward. Immediately screams and cries of agon could be heard from the trailer truck. Shinya stopped to catch his breath. Prince stared, then started, as if in a trance, to stumble towards the truck. He broke into a jog, then a sprint ignoring Shinya’s cries telling him not too. The doors leading out of the trailer, Prince saw two other men go up to the doors and try to pry them open. “I help you.” He said, wrapping his fingers across the right door. He could hear the peoples moans, something slick ran across his fingers. It was warm and sticky, he knew it would probably be another persons blood. The doors suddenly flew open, the force knocking him backwards so fast that he hit the bottom step, his head hitting the concrete. He groaned, his vision swarming with black stars. He saw people clamber over him, no one offering him a helping hand. That was usual of course, for everyone was trying to get away from the monster. The monster leapt out of the trailer truck and onto the pavement. It spotted a human, a lone target and immediately lunged after the human. The human who was having a hard time running away, quickly tried speeding off but the monster caught up with the human. A piercing scream could be heard, and the two men that Prince had helped open the trailer doors quickly went to help the other humans aid.
Prince coughed lightly, and rolled over. He slowly stood up still dazed. Shaking his head slightly he moaned, then sighed out loud. He glanced down at his hands. Indeed the warm sticky substance he had felt was blood on his hands. He gagged, then, glancing up at the sky he quickly started making his way back towards Shinya. Shinya made a motion for Prince to hurry, they were safe for now. When Prince reached his friends side, he was finally recovering. His head did not hurt as much. “Are you alright?” He asked worriedly, placing a hand on Prince’s shoulder. “We really should leave.” He said as he patted Prince on the back. “Brave thing you did there Prince. Come on let’s go.” Prince nodded, and turned around to start running to leave when he saw it. The monster…that horrible creature…Shinya stumbled backwards. The creature, having finished its meal, was running back towards Shinya and Prince’s way again. Shinya yelled “RUN!” again for the second time, but Prince did not hear Shinya. Instead he took a few steps backwards, then twisted around starting to sprint again. Shinya was far ahead of him. Prince would have to catch up. Prince unlike Shinya, veered to the right so he could stay on the grass. He continued running, losing Shinya who had turned to the left. The monster, unfortunately followed him. Prince glanced behind him worriedly, the monster was catching up. He turned back to his goal, there was a thing he could hide under. It was a little far but if he could slide under the thing he would be safe and the monster would focus on someone else to eat. He knew it was bad to make the monster eat something else, but everyone was thinking the same thing. Save yourself and no one else. That was the way life was these days. He bit his bottom lip, trying to regain some feeling in his legs. He had run so much that he barely had any energy left. Come one…I need adrenaline…come on…. He thought in his mind. He was so close, so close so close! His goal reached closer and closer to his body, he could imagine himself sliding underneath the thing and being safe, the monster would leave him alone.
Then all went wrong. His shoes, the new boots he bought that were a size to big...Prince stumbled forward, tripping over his own two feet. This was the worst moment to have a clumsy attack, yet he still had one. Immediately, when he saw the ground rush up to meet him, all hope rushed out of him like how a flame from a candle blows out when a strong wind sweeps across it. He could feel the impact of the ground beneath his body, the pain that spread through his limbs. He glanced up just in time to see the monster’s six jaws open up, imagining the feel of the monsters jaws when its razor sharp teeth sunk into his own soft flesh. He imagined the blood running down his arms and slim body. Eyes wide, he quickly turned to the side and curled himself up into a ball, the same thing you would do when a bear attacks you, cover up all your vitals. Why? Well, when the monster was this close range, crawling or trying to run again was useless. Prince breathed rapidly, waiting for the sharp knifes of teeth to sink into his flesh. Yet nothing happened. Instead the ground rumbled, he could feel the monsters footsteps as the monster rushed past him. It caused his body to bounce up from the ground a little. Prince could not believe it, maybe the monster was not focused on him and on some other prey. Prince sat up, and was quickly about to stand up and start sprinting back towards where Shinya was, when suddenly the monsters tail whisked around him like a whip and lifted him high up into the air. The monster bounded upwards towards the sky, dragging him with him. He saw Shinya from afar, Shinya rushing towards him, a expression of horror and sadness on his face. Prince knew that his life was over with now, he was in the monsters grasp. The monster, from the sky, aimed and dived straight into the lake. Prince let out one last yell before he was dragged underneath the water, it was the last anyone would ever hear of him. A few oxygen bubbles floated onto the surface, the dark shadow of the creature swimming could be seen for a couple seconds, then both oxygen bubbles and shadow disappeared leaving nothing in sight. It was over, the monster was gone. Yet it had dragged Shinya’s best friend with him.
