The war had raged on year after year, things were looking good for the Japanese army. They had invaded the coastal regions of China as well as most of the pacific ocean. They had soldiers in India and many were on boats, readying an attack on the ever more warlike United States. Who had made the mistake of putting all of their aircraft carriers on one island base in Hawaii. He'd heard of plans to attack and made a preemptive strike, before the American's ever tried to interfere with them. Over in Europe the Germans were waging war against the rest of the world, some countries allied themselves, while others resisted. Recently Russia had broken their truce and began to fight, so the Japanese's plan was to fight through China and hit Russia on both sides. Colonel Shika Onikawa was in one of the forward bases on the Chinese continent. Overseeing the troops moving in the invasion force. He was a proud young man, who had done a lot to serve his country. The young colonel lived on base, taking troops out from time to time to quash small uprisings in the area. The front line had moved on and he was hoping not to see battle again now that he'd been assigned to an area, though he knew the hope was in vain. Rumor had it that the Americans had been supplying the Russians with tanks and bombers, so if the Russians wanted to keep attacking Germany, they would have to fight for China as well. Though maybe the Chinese would be reluctant to accept help, he hoped it was so. He had a young native girl there that he was rather fond of, he was planning on taking her back home and marrying her, she already lived on base with him. He knew though, that he wouldn't be going home for a long time, and all chances of a normal courtship were off. His girlfriend was much younger than he, an orphan who didn't know her age but placed it between sixteen and nineteen. He hoped it was the latter, and they decided together that it was so, even though there was no proof to support it. He knew though that there would be little issue with that once he brought her home. Just surviving this war and getting her home with him would be the problem.
