She lay awake in her bed with her eyes open. The darkness of the room only leaving when lightning flashed outside the window. She listened as the thunder rolled outside, to the sound of the rain as it poured onto her roof. She felt the satin sheet laying gently on top of her, her long soft hair spread out on the pillow. Her heart felt heavy with betrayal as she stared into the darkness. She slipped her feet off the bed as she sat up and pulled the sheets off of her. She stepped onto the cold wood floor and stood up. She walked into the hallway and flipped the switch, the power was out. “I don’t need the light for this anyway….” she sighed as she walked down the hall to the kitchen. She opened the cherry wood drawer and pulled out a knife. The lightning flashed outside as she pulled the knife to her wrist. She slit her wrists as she stared out the window. Tears fell from her sky blue eyes as she tried to focus on her wrists. She felt the blood rise to the skin and quickly flow out. A knock came on the door, she ignored it and after a moment she collapsed. Her skin becoming pale and cold as she lay unconscious on the black granite tile.
