I can't believe Summer's almost over. I think about this summer and it seems so short... I mean, the first week of Summer I was up north with one of my best friends, met her cousin, we all had a great time... And I still remember everything from the beginning of the summer perfectly, nice and crisp, as if it were yesterday. And, honestly, I wish it was, because that'd mean that summer wouldn't be close to being over...
I'm listening to "The Night Before" by Carrie Underwood, which reminds me of my first time ever going up north. It was with my true best friend Elsey197 in mid-may. She and I were up until 5:00 am, singing... I remember that very day I had dropped my cell phone in the lake, so the battery was fried, and we decided to listen to music on her cell phone. She was on one couch, I was on the couch across from her, and she put this song on (on her cell) and put her cell phone in the middle of the floor in between us... And all I could think about was Summer, and how much fun it was going to be.
I couldn't help but daydream about camping, cuddling at bonfires, and just walking the sidewalks of my neighborhood for no reason. I didn't expect anything that happened this summer to happen, but I think I enjoyed the turn of events... But now I'm stumped. Should I try to re-write the rest of it, into the summer that I had once longed for? It could, I suppose, all be done in the Fall...
But sUmMeR has it's own... Taste. Literally. When you breathe outside in the summer, you smell... Burnt-out bonfires and fresh air, mixed with a dash of liquid chlorine and a whole lot of fresh-cut grass. But the smell of Fall is moist, dying leaves, potpouri, pumpkin, and has the taste of air that seems to be dying. In Summer, you'd see a 7th grader riding their bike accross your lawn just to get to their friend's house, or the park, or just to practice their off-road skills... But in Fall, you see that same 7th grader cross your lawn so they make it to the library before it closes, because they'd be grounded if they don't return this book on time.
Yeah, stuff like that.
So as I listen to this song, I remember those visions I originally had. Not sitting, not walking hand in hand, but running with many of my close friends as black figures next to a large body of water at the perfect sunset, only to break with Zack and Chelsey and tell some jokes next to a bonfire... Then, to sit on the roof, ignoring the mosquitoes, and telling stories and watching the stars and the moon.
I didn't expect to have such a great year (and sad, almost incomplete) at theatre camp... I also didn't expect to miss so many people so much. You can give so much in the time alloted(sp?), but that doesn't mean it's going to be close-captioned.
Basically, I don't know why, but I feel... Incomplete.
