So, yeah. I got to listen to 'Jeremy' by Pearl Jam today in American Lit. For never hearing their music before, it was really amazing. The rest of school, the words 'Jeremy spoke in class today' echoed through my head.
I was, however, mis-informed about the music video. After school, I went on YouTube and watched it. According to Wikipedia, the end scene is not of Jeremy shooting his classmates, but of shooting himself. MTV had it edited to not show him putting the gun in his mouth, and pulling the trigger. Instead, all you see is a close-up of the top-half of his face. Then, there's a flash of light, and the screen goes blank. Pictures of the frozen class are shown, horrified looks on their faces, and blood splattered upon them. (This is why people think he shot them, not himself.)
They stopped airing the video after all the shootings, which I think is stupid. Really, who cares if they were 'inspired' by a story of shootings, they're just trying to pin the blame on something other than them. The real Jeremy did, in fact, commit suicide in front of his classmates, in 1991. As such, the only way you could be 'inspired' by the video to do such things would be to commit suicide in the same fashion.
It's a good song, you should all go listen to it, and/or watch the video. A bit depressing, but amazing.
Nuit out.
