The wars of Saron Anomalocaris Part 1: The Keeper of Peace By: Adrian Castillo
Prologue
This is a story, Of those poor souls, That waged a war, And paid the tolls.
And every night, Your blood will run cold, When you think of they, Who died in these tales of old.
In an ocean so young, So vast and deep, Shining radiant blue, And strange creatures creep.
Where six tribes of animal, Fight a war, All for dominance, And hatred down to their core.
Where one tribe, Brave and strong, Tries to quell the fighting, And rushes headlong.
Where one small animal, 2 years of age, Becomes a hero, Without any rage.
To protect his fellows, He fights for it to cease, And that very goal, Makes him decease.
Chapter 1: Chrisom Waters
In a year ages past, Near an island now long gone, I, Saron Anomalocaris In the sea, to where we are drawn
The nations of our race Were in civil war. Numbers dead were great, and all left a sore
When I was two, in my mother’s care I left home to begin a quest To get to the blood-soaked sand Swimming, swimming, swimming west
After days in the open sea, I heard my stomach growl, And I looked down to find my prey, Then one ran a-foul
I swooped in with a whoosh My appendages slicing through, Dieing the water red, And killing the trilobite too
My race was mostly feared For killing mercilessly, But it is our niche, And we prowl the water fearlessly
Then a gang of rebels Species of Laggina and Canadensis Circled around me, And I heard them hiss
“Join us or die! For there are more of us then you!” But our kind never fear Even if we are only two
Giving a look to the surface Determination on my face, I swished my tail like lightning, And from there, quickened my pace
With them on my tail furiously, I soared out of the water, Over the moon, past the stars Then falling faster, and faster
Then my jaws, I opened wide, To go into a dive And with a splash, went in to kill And my jaws, into the neck, they drive
He thrashed and bucked, Growling and slashing, Giving a fight, As we kept dashing,
Then with a sickening shlick Off came his head, In the now blood-stained water, I swam up ahead
More days passed Maybe a week When I came to our encampment That I came to seek
They gave me a title, And armor of bone, And that very day, My pride was shone
When we came into the open, We saw other tribes, And all six bloodthirsty, And radiating bad vibes
Then with a roar, And a swirl of water, The battle had started, And kept growing hotter.
The Sarons soared, The Laggina dove, The Canadensis swerved ‘Round the coral grove
Water was chrisom, With diluted blood, As four species were eradicated, And bodies sunk in mud
I was captured by the others, Our worst enemy- Canadensis, And was interrogated brutally, In the deep dark abyss,
Six months later, Restrained and confined, A small Anomalocaris, With jaws very defined,
“Kill the prisoner!” I heard them say, I thought ‘This is the time, And I SHALL MAKE THEM PAY!’
I broke out suddenly, Lashing with deadly speed, Slashing at one guard, And snickering at my deed,
I had to help the others So I fought ‘till I came To the room of the ruler Nowhere near tame
“You have come very far.” He said with a sneer, “But your journey will end, Right now and here
A battle then ensued, For what seemed like years, And as I reared back my head, Sharp jaws on my chest sparked fears
Then I locked my own jaws, Around the flesh of his neck, And took him out, But I was a wreck
We sunk through the ocean, And I was deathly afraid, As it grew darker and darker, My life started to fade
The Canadensis surrounded me, Infuriated by their loss, And as they were about to strike, The Saron came across
Soon Canadensis was no more, And a memorial was built, As I came back, To familiar silt
Then after a month, And I slowly recover, I finally came out, And left to discover,
Now a legend continues on, But only exploring, And day after day, I found nothing,
In a year ages past, Near an island now long gone, I, Anomalocaris, To the sea, forever drawn,
One day, I was swimming, Near a seaweed lawn, A shadow passed over, And it looked like death spawn Chapter 2: Dark Waters
After a war, Water was blood red, Chrisom with death, Only to become darker then lead
After months of exploring, To find some new life, I came across the seaweed, Then fear impaled like a knife
As a shadow, deathly black, Crept over me, And a huge new predator, Came into light to see
Teeth like daggers, Pitch black eyes, And miniature versions, Out of shadows, they rise
I snapped out of the spell, And gave a slight growl, As the things swooped down, For prey- on the prowl
Its eyes were night, As they locked on my own, As I reared back my head, To attack, I was prone
It foresaw my aggression, Opening huge jaws At an insanely fast speed That defied nature’s laws
I dodged just barley, Going to sunlight, It just watched me intently, With hate, through the flight
I got back to home, To warn the city, But because I ran away, Thy didn’t listen to me
Then what should happen? The sun was blocked, Everyone ran in terror, In our shelter, we were locked
But one poor soul, Either confident or idiotic, Tried to negotiate, And his death was hypnotic
They took their kill, And swam away, “You lead them right here!” Our leader does say
“From no on, you’re exiled! Get out of this place, And from now in this ocean, so blue, You alone must bear this disgrace!”
I then turned my back, On what was my tribe, And a promise of home, Would now be a bribe
I swam to the seaweed, All covered in red, Then the ocean became dark, It’s the least that can be said
In reality though, It was truly like night, And this eclipse for them, Did nothing to their sight
I felt a vibration, On my left side, And I snapped futility, But this seemed to be the end of the ride
Although sight was useless, I tried “seeing” with my flaps, And vibrations were close, So I set up some traps
One came from above, And I slid back, Catching its poor neck, And my sense of touch had put me on track
Soon three were dead, And the feeling was thick, There was such a stench, That could make you sick
The sun then came out, With radiant rays, Scaring the new ones away, For many days
I had to run, To tell the city, That I faced them down, But the sight wasn’t pretty
The city was in ruins, With splatters of red, And a symbol on rock, That filled me with dread
It was an eye, The symbol of Laggina armies, And a curled up appendage, For Canadensis, that made me wheeze
For an alliance had been formed Someway, somehow, Between two enemies, We thought were gone ‘till now.
The leader of our tribe, Came out of hiding, And he said to me, “They came like lightning!”
I looked out to sea, With a gleam in my eye, “Even if we are few, Beat them, we must try!”
With death ‘round the corner I called out to them, “Pick up your armor, This must now end!” Chapter 3: White Waters
I am a Saron, A tribe of many, Beset by wars, Peace? Never any
My tribe’s under siege, So I took control, “We’re moving to the river, In a patrol!”
It took many days, Long and grueling, By the time we came, For food, we were drooling
We had stopped near some falls, In a pond near rapids and shallows, The area was plentiful with trilobites And homes that were rock hollows
I took first guard, Near the rivers end, When along came a Laggina, Who said he had a message to send
I was told horrid news, About the alliance we had dread, The new ones, the Canadensis, and the Laggina, Were on the land we tread
We had to prepare, For a battle of survival, But our skills had died, And needed revival
For days on end, We would be trained, With armor on, And from rest, we refrained
But we went on, So we could win, Death at our tails, Coming through what we live in
The battle drew near, And we were all tense, Camouflaged and ready, Behind a natural fence
When night fell, No one could sleep, All appendages waving, Through the water, not deep
Then the tide came in, Raising the river, They could come in now, And we started to shiver
When out of the blue, A roar made us freeze, As the army lined up, All snickering to tease
“Worship us or perish! For we are gods! The army of darkness! Just weigh your odds!”
That is what they said, Armor shining in the moonlight, And now was the time, To set everything right
Then a large multitude appeared, All small, yet many, As their leader declared, “Species left out? There will not be any!”
Three armies of power, One bloodthirsty and enraged, One determined to win, And one with options being waged
Then with a swish, A splash and a whoosh, All three charged, Giving a great push
This was true war, No hiding or espionage, Just brutally exchanged, deadly attacks, As teeth began to loge
Later that day, In the white foam of the falls, Scattered bodies lied, An animal made a call
What was left of the enemies? Gathered their forces up, And made a final strike To sum it all up.
As my tribe was destroyed, Wait- my entire race, I broke to the open ocean, Trying not to leave a trace
The two other leaders, Followed me there, And a three-way fight ensued, And through the ocean we tear
The leader of the main enemies, Was a Tylosaur, And his pitch black eyes, Through my mind, they tore
The leader of the others, Was a medium sized shark, With his jaws open wide, And eyes also dark
I whipped out my tail, Striking one, And the second came behind, This wouldn’t be fun
I reared back my head, Hitting his own, Then my jaws grabbed his neck, And broke the bone
It was me and the other, How it was meant to be, And I arched back to strike, As he banked closer to me
I grabbed his neck, And with a sickening SHLICK! It was detached from his head, And that did the trick.
But not before teeth, Sharper than knives, Cut through my chest, And the sea claimed two more lives
90% of all living things, Were lost to that war, And forever in history, This would stay sore
I sunk into abyss, Taking one last glance, The sun was pure white, And pain seemed to lance
Life left me then, As I finally gave up fighting, And accepted the fate, And continued sinking
Now forever gone are my race, Never to be seen again on earth, And no one will know, Our tribe’s worth
A difference can be made, In war or in peace till the end of all life, ‘Cause the power of one, Will come through in strife Epilogue
Eons pass, After the deaths, Of those called Anomalocarids, Who drew their final breaths.
The time of humans, Comes at last, And they explore, The wonders of the past.
Digging and drilling, Straight through the ground, Hitting the limestone, Making a terrible sound.
And they see a bone, This was a find, Then more are found, Of a similar kind.
But there were more, Different in structure, Thousands of skeletons, Without a rupture.
But some were strange, With bone atop bone, segmented too, Somewhat like armor, But that couldn’t be true.
Then the strangest one, Had this coating, But the incredible feat, Was one they were noting.
It had the head, Of a giant, A Tylosaur skull, For profit, this seemed reliant.
For it looked like, It had ripped it away, With giant appendages, And that was all they could say.
They were put in a museum, The special one, a paradox, That astounded the visitors, because it was so unorthodox.
But this race got into the war, Brothers striking one another down, And up in the heavens, Saron gave a frown.
For life had not learned, That war caused death and misery, And was the reason, For the disappearance of life mystery.
Any civilization, Great or not, Is a victim of war, Like they had fought.
Now the cause of their demise, Had returned to kill, With a new batch of prey, To finally make still.
