My Loyal Reviewers!
TheAceOfSpades: Yeah, Nekan's cool. If he were human, he'd be about 26. And don't be too mean to greengangster. He's my cousin.
FlameR2: What do you mean 'hard to understand?'
GreenGangster: Thanks, that might help persuade Luke to read it.
"Indero! Come back to the nursery," Sarma called. "It's getting dark!"
Sarma watched her dark grey kitten pick up his moss ball, and bounce back. The queen gave him a quick bath before tucking him into their nest.
She sighed as she watched her young sleep. Four kittens, and Indero was the only survivor. Of course, she'd had others. Previous litters where the kittens grew into noble warriors...Too fast for Sarma's liking. Indero would probably be her last kit before she retired.
She watched the evening hunting patrol return. But while the other hunters added their catches to the prey pile, and then took a piece for themselves, Nekan added his, then prowled across the clearing to Merra's den. If it had been anyone else, she might've been suspisious, but Nekan could be uptight at times.
Sarma herself padded over to the prey pile, and took a chubby finch. Then she went back over to the nursery, where the other queens were talking. She settled down next to them, and started on her finch, when the pale tabby Cowa approached them.
"Hello, Cowa, does Merra have a message for us?" Asked Solla.
The other she-cat laughed softly. "Actually, I'm looking to move in. I'm expecting."
The queens errupted into purrs of "Oooh," and "Congradulations," and "Who's the father?"
"Langen" Answered Cowa.
Sarma gave the younger queen a quick swipe over the ear with her tongue. "He's a fine warrior," she murmured.
As the other queens led Cowa into the nursery, Sarma's attention was captivated again.
Merra had emerged from her den, with Nekan flanking her. She called Yuzaak, Senni, and Kaymi over to her, said something to them, they nodded, and the three cats moved swiftly out of camp.
Sarma wondered what that was about, when she heard terrified mewls from the nursery. She rushed in to find Indero writhing and squealing in his nest. She licked her son furiously, waking him up.
"Mama," the kitten whimpered. "I had a scary dream."
"But it's alright now, isn't it?" Sarma murmured. "You're safe." She curled up with her kitten. "What happened?"
"I heard a loud noise. It was like thunder, but louder." Then a really loud noise, then something big was running after me, and I couldn't escape."
"But it's all gone now," the queen soothed, feeling her eyelids growing heavy. The other queens were already settling down.
Sarma awoke to frantic cries of "Ariya! Ariya! Get your tail down here Ariya!"
