[color=violet]I and my family are from the Philippines. In the Philippines the weather is generally hot and humid all year round. We speak English and Pilipino. Philippines are an island nation located in Southeast Asia, with Manila as its capital city. The Philippines is divided into 3 island groups: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. There are a lot of languages spoken in the Philippines such as English, the second language of the Philippines. My dad is from Nueva Ecija. It’s the main rice growing province of the Philippines and also the leading producer of onion. We eat rice most of time. For a great snack, we choose sticky rice cakes called suman. The most popular Filipino meal is adobo. And in some homes, it is not bad manners to eat with your fingers. Christmas in the Philippines begins as early as late October. Carols play over the radio, and offices and homes put on festive cheer with ribbons, Christmas trees, lanterns and lights. Chinese Filipino’s set off their firecrackers to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Festivities honor the carabao and give thanks for a good harvest. We study math, science, pilipino, english, history, government, and civics. Most schools have gardens where we can learn how to farm.We work hard to get good grades which means doing homework and taking lots of test. Often in the phillipines grandparents, parents, children, and even cousins and aunts live together in one compound.
