The Problem With Everburning Chapter Five
When Axel finally caught up with the two, he cried out," Larxene!" " Crap, now what?" Larxene said gloomily, she was really hoping the two would've gotten left behind. " Demyx bit me!" Axel cried. " It's worse than the flying monkeys!" " Say what?" She was doing her best to ignore him. " Larxene." " Not listening." " Larxene." " I can't hear you." He walked up to her and breathed in her ear, " LARXENE!!!" " Damnit Axel-!" " Shut up!" Xigbar yelled. " Don't make me come back there you two." " Demyx bit me-wait-still is biteing me!" Axel said, defending himself. " Larxene's being the mean one!" " I swear I'm going to do more to you than I did a while ago if you don't shut up!" Larxene screamed. Axel shuddered, not being quite able to forget the event yet, and went up to Xigbar. " May I barrow a paper and a pen?" Axel whispered so low that Larxene couldn't hear. " What for?" Xigbar asked, though he shouldn't have asked. " I need to write my will before Larxene finally decides to kill me." Axel answered. " Ya know, it'd be a little hard to write one AFTER I died." Xigbar sighed, this was going to be a long story to tell the guys at the poker table later tonight. " Yeah, sorry I don't have either of 'em. I guess your out of luck. " " Oh....then do you have pliers I could barrow?" " What for?" Xigbar asked irratated. " Demyx." " Sorry, I don't have one either. " Xigbar answered. " Why don't you just throw Demyx the door you broke off of his doll house? That might get rid of him." " How'd you know I had a door?" " I can see it in your hand and if your not careful with that thing you're going to hurt somebody. " Xigbar answered. " Hm.....I don't think Demyx can hold it, it's till burning. " " No dip Sherlock." Came a snotty reply from the back. " I wasn't talking to you, Larxene." Axel hissed. Then he waved the burning piece of wood in front of Demyx's face and said, " Ya want this? " Demyx's eyes grew large and his pupils dialated, but he didn't reach for it. He might've been acting somewhat unintelligent, but he knew well enough to know he couldn't touch the burning piece of wood. " Then let go of me and I'll hold it for you. Ok?" Demyx didn't really see how this bargain was going to make him let go of Axel's arm, but he let go anyway, he was starting to drool. " Ew! Demyx slobber." Axel pouted. " You can wash your cloak later. " Xigbar reasoned. They had by now been wandering in the maze of books for a few minutes and Xigbar was already having trouble remembering which way the howl had come from. That is, if the howl from the thing had been some what close to the exit. It didn't matter either way for Xigbar, he was ready to kill something by now. " Hey, I found a new cooking recipe for duck soup!" Xigbar heard Axel say somewhere behind him. " Hey! Put that book back-!" Larxene snipped. " No, I'm hungry. " Axel argued. Xigbar sighed as the two quietly did a small game of tug-a-war with the book. After Larxene had won, another few minutes trickled by and Axel became a little shifty. " What now Axel?" He didn't answer, he seemed too scared to talk at all. He kept close to Larxene in the back, as if for protection. He held the little door flame somewhat to his side so that Demyx could watch it while he trailed behind Axel and Larxene. Xigbar ignored Axel's behavior and kept walking, however, a few minutes later it became obvious Axel was deeply troubled by something. " WHAT? Axel?" Xigbar asked annoyed. " If there's something bothering you just say it. It's unusal for you to stop talking completely. " Well...it's nothing really, just that I have a funny feeling that somethings following us. " He answered in a nervous whisper. " ' A funny feeling? ' " Xigbar asked. " What do you mean?" " Well....I keep seeing this black thing hovering at the end of a bookcase that we just passed or I keep hearing soft foot falls behind us instead of heavy ones that give off a nice and noisey click on these textile floors. " Then he stopped as Xigbar gave a quick glance behind them, curious as to what Axel was talking about. Then Axel added, " Not to mention those beady yellow dots that look a lot like-" " Eyes?!" Xigbar cried out, watching a pair of them hovering ever closer to them. Demyx stiffened in fear and started to run, Larxene looked over at Xigbar, as if waiting to hear an order. " What the hell are you standing around for? Run!" He cried! " I thought you said we'd fight the thing with our bare-" " Forget what I said, just run!" Axel and Xigbar started running after Demyx, Larxene on the other hand hesitated for a second and sighed, " Men. " She heard a throaty growl behind her and she swore she heard spittle dripping from the things mouth to the smooth floor with a satisfying ' splat!' That's when she started to run. " Oh, so you're just going to leave me?!" She called to them, as they weaved through the bookshelves. After a five minutes of running, she stopped to caught her breathe while she was hidding behind a bookcase, she heard footsteps and felt someone slam into her and another curl around her leg. She could only guess who the two where. " If you don't stop touching me in a second, I'll hurt the both of you." Axel, who was the one who had slammed into her, cringed as he held her tightly. " I don't think we lost it." Larxene heard another set of footsteps and found Xigbar running towards them. He was breathing hard and nearly collapsed when he reached them. " That...thing...is...still-" " -Out there. Yeah we know." Larxene finished for him. " No...Still...behind me." The three of them looked behind Xigbar and saw two emotionless yellow eyes moveing ever closer. " Doesn't that thing get tired." Axel whined. The four of them started running again and when they reached the end of the bookcase, Xigbar said, " Ok, split up. It can't follow us all so it'll have to pick one of us." " What happens to the one it picks?" Axel asked. " You've got an imagination Axel, use it!" Xigbar yelled as he split away from them. However, none of the others split up, they stayed in one big mass and kept going. Xigbar turned around, " Idiots! That's just provoking the thing to follow you!" However, the thing wasn't as predictable as Xigbar thought. When it reached the end of the bookcase they'd been hidding at, it didn't follow Larxene, Demxy, and Axel. Instead, it turned its gaze to Xigbar, who wasn't running and was breathing hard already. " Great. Why is it always the old guys that get eaten first. Whatever happened to respecting your elders?" Xigbar asked as he did a one-eighty and started running again. Meanwhile, Larxene had lost Demyx and Axel because she was running too fast for them to keep up. Lucky for her, and unlucky for her. She was hanging out by another bookcase not too far from where they had been and listened to the others footsteps. She noticed that everyone was running around in circles and at lest one of them was running into dead ends alot. She was willing to bet that one was Axel, though she couldn't be sure. She also heard heavy footfalls and hard breathing along with soft padded footsteps following close behind. She had no doubt in her mind that the creature-thing was having fun chasing its target. She felt sorry for the person who was being chased by the thing, they were about to become food and it wasn't Axel. Not that she really hated him of course. Ok, maybe she did a little tiny bit, but he was annoying as hell, could you blame her? Suddenly she heard the heavy footsteps stop and she heard some rapid footsteps from someone else nearby, which the creature chased after willingly. These were the same footsteps that she believed to be Axel's. Maybe Axel would be lunch afterall. " Larxene!" Axel yelled from somewhere in the bookcases. She turned around and found Axel running towards her, however, it wasn't he that was being chased by the thing. He slowed down as he neared her and rest his hands on his knees, breathing hard. He looked up at her, " So it's not you it's chaseing. I guess that's one mystery solved." " You sound as if you know more about what's happening than I do. And that's very surpriseing." Larxene said in a bored and yet also annoyed tone. " I knew it was going after Xigby buddy for a while. Then I intervened and had the thing chase me, but I lost it somehow. Then I heard someone running really fast not too far away and I knew it had to be either you or Demyx. You, because your as fast a hell, and Demyx, because he's a coward and runs away from things alot. " Axel explained, and it stunned her because it was completely smart, for Axel at lest. He lured the monster away from Xigbar and was able to conclude who it might've been chasing when he lost it. " But I don't think Xigby knows that I lured the monster away..." He added thoughtfully. " Why's that? " She asked with slight curiousity. " Because he's still running around in circles and doing figure eights back there." Axel answered, pointing his thumb in the direction behind him. She was surprised to find that Xigbar's footsteps were lighter and hardly audible, but she guessed that was because he had power of Zero-gravity. Suddenly Axel became very still and quiet, something else Larxene wasn't used to seeing from Axel. " What?" He made the ' sssh' motion with his finger, and Larxene soon found why. Everything was quiet. Larxene felt her heart pounding, it was all she could hear. She wondered what happened and turned to Axel to tell him that they should go check on the others, but Axel's body jumped and he grabbed her shoulders. The next thing she knew the two of them were diving to the ground and not a moment after they made contact with the floor that something else fell on top of them.
