• Caught in traffic on New Years Eve
    hitched
in the back of my mother's car.
    Gazing out the window
    looking for something
I thought I could never find.
    Closing my eyes
trying to block the tears from falling
    I bit my lip
    I bit it hard
    feeling nothing
    but beautiful pain.
    Breath wobbling
    I opened my eyes
    to see a car
    a person looking back.
    A smile
forced its way onto my lips
    but they saw.
They saw the tears, from so far away.
Even when no one else ever could.
    They looked at me, confused
    then traced on the window
    a sad face
    and a question mark.
    I nodded.
    She looked at me
    and instead of pity
    she gave me empathy.
    She mouthed what looked like
    "It will get better."
    Then my mother drove away
    the traffic
    gone.
    I sat there and thought.
I thought for what seemed like hours.
    This one person
of whom I didn't even know there name
got me better then people I've known my whole life.
    I found it,
the thing I was looking for.
    Hope comes fast.
