Christmas Present for Mommy
-
You are a flower,
A rose,
A beautiful bouquet.
Not for any amount of money,
Any award,
Not even for the Nobel Prize would I ever give you away.
You’re like one of Shakespeare’s plays,
Intricate,
Elaborate,
And mysterious in every way.
Like any other rose you have your thorns,
And sometimes you even have Devil horns,
But I know it’s only when you need to keep me in check,
And you need to do that a lot,
So I’m surprised you’re not yet a nervous wreck.
I know you’re stressed,
And very depressed.
I know you need to have a break every once in a while,
And I don’t like putting you on trial,
But please understand,
I don’t want to make you mad.
I love you always,
And I’ll never stop,
Even though your awareness of that may,
Sadly,
Drop.
You’re a hardworking mother,
Working harder than no other,
To keep your family together.
We respect that,
But please try to see that we,
Meaning the whole family,
Only want to see you be happy.
I myself can’t do much to ease your troubles,
But I’ll try my best not to muddle in your business,
Cause you more stress,
Or be a big pest.
I know I’m not the perfect daughter,
And that,
If I apply myself,
I could be a bit smarter,
But the only thing I want to see,
Is you being happy with me.
We aren’t very close,
And I know this well.
Because you don’t like being touched physically,
And I don’t like being attached mentally,
But you see,
I can’t help it in your case.
We don’t really get along too well,
And we both think the world is some kind of hell,
But the story I’m trying to tell,
Is the one where you fell from heaven,
And landed in the lives of us eleven.
Your eight lovely brothers and sisters,
Daddy,
Sissy,
And I.
I want you to know,
That however the wind may flow,
Whichever direction the Earth will tow,
And no matter how much life will blow,
My love for you will go for,
Miles,
Light-years,
Even farther than a hundred gigaparsecs,
And past the boundaries of our universe.
So,
Wherever you go,
You’ll surely know,
That I love you.
You are the flower garden of my life,
My fountain of knowledge,
And most important of all,
My mother.
You are truly a flower,
The last true rose in a sea of fraudulent blossoms.
-Merry Christmas 2009
Love you mom, Kathryn.
