Mexican smoke dancing in through the screen
Swaying intangible hips to an unseen beat
Rolled R's getting high off the American dream
A spanish fly sings "Senorita move your feet"
Heat bears down hard on this lonely place
The sun sits, perched closely on our shoulder
Disdain written in ink all over your face
As the dying cigarettes of men cease to smolder
The air grows cool with alcoholic humidity
Hazy eyes watch the swath of red cloth
A twist of fate a sort of serendipity
Your eyes meet mine a flame drawn to the moth
Stunning, the color of your eyes became irrelevant
Dizzy from this heat I claim
Body numb, all but my sight and your scent
You were a fear which I was willing to tame
The flame with passion grew even brighter
Room spinning faster then the dance
A waltz of spite from the sparks of a fighter
When did we begin to burn in this romance
We fought through tangos and spins
Pulling and pushing through steps of the song
This war we fought, both of us won
No direction we went was seen as wrong
But your eyes still snapped with anger and need
A place I wanted to fill
You laughed with scorn at my greed
How could my passion be your will
But long forgotten were those days
That my mind knew nothing of you
I traveled roads that weaved many ways
That brought me along side, dancing in your view
If you tell me to leave I'll stay by your side
Even while the night is packing up it's moonlight
If you tell me to stay I'll disappear without a fight
For if you know you need me I know you're alright
If you tell me to leave I'll stay by your side
As the dawn approaches in quickening pace
Even when the sun tells the stars to hide
I'll be one step behind in this empty race
Forever I'll watch your hands by your sides
Until someday one is tucked inside
The hand of another who loves you like I
I'll tuck my hands in my pockets and fall out of your life
Hidden away forever and a day
They will certainly be without a ring
Take them out and find a way
To let another help you sing
My hands will always long for yours
No other will ever fit the same way
But maybe in time they can learn
To, with a new hand, face the new day
As the sun set and the song made its downturn
The singer made her crescendo and crashed
Just like the sun, it ceased to burn
As we departed, we knew, our love was dashed
The sun always will rise on a new day
Though these eyes will never see it the same
A lifetime of love passed through my mind
While we were dancing, gazes entwined
