An invisible terror corrupts me from within,
Behind the guise of an adolescent free.
Unwarranted, but I sense the demon's grin.
Left alone, all thoughts turn to sins
Inappropriate for the deepest reefs.
In this terror, I decay from within.
An absent gaze, a smile stretched too thin,
A shadow more profound that what is perceived.
Behind my lips lies a demon's grin.
Teeth bared as sharp as needle-pins,
The isolation eats away all that is seen.
Its invisible hands corrupt from within.
Malicious thoughts make enemies of kin,
Far below, I am horror-struck to see
This demon's water-logged grin.
Sinking now, I see its hellish fins,
Drowning amidst the merciless sea
This terror corrupted me from within,
Transformed; I bear the demon's grin.

- Title: Villainelle
- Artist: aPoeticSecondAgo.
- Description: This is a villainelle poem that I wrote in February '08, when I was going through a bit of a rough spot. It was really just an excuse to play around with the villainelle structure (which includes the repetition of lines 1 and 3 in certain stanzas, among other things), and I really liked the way it turned out. I hope you do, too. =)
