As the evening falls one last time,
My lifes essence slipping away
Like the sunlight at winger solstice,
Often do I reflect back,
On the early chapters of my time.
Wasted were the words that I spoke,
And spent were my actions before thought, so many times.
Lost was my heart so long ago, very long ago
When I spurned the only woman I loved.
These final breaths given to me by God
At last expelling from my decrepit body
Now I wonder, after my many years on Earth,
Did I really lead a good life?
Did I take the chance to savor every moment
That should have been blessed by an unseen lord?
Where did I go wrong in my path and
Stop listening to the music of the world?
But now my ears are clogged with death,
My eye closed and mind turned off to everlasting beauty and grace.
The warmth of a woman and the burn of alcohol
Will no longer chase away this chill that grows
At last the light has come for me
To guide me to my path, that door at the very end,
When I make my last stand this time
All I can ask for my lord, is that
You hear my request for forgiveness, my Lord
And lead my departing soul, oh Lord,
Into the tranquility that is the end of time.
- Title: Forgiveness
- Artist: Naree
- Description: Not my usual sort of poem but when the words flow you don't stop them. This is about a man trying to make peace at his time of passing. He is looking back at his life and hoping for forgiveness. Please critique and comment fairly.
