You are my dream deferred
I have set you aside like an old toy on a shelf
You will stay there, staring
At me; willing me to pick you
Up again. But I will not.
I am happy with who I am, and
I do not need any more heavy baggage.
I will stare back and wait for you to
Explode,
Smash into a million pieces,
And scatter like leaves in a gust.
You will, because I want you to.
I will not cry for you, because it would waste
My precious tears. They are meant for other things.
Perhaps better, perhaps worse, but not for you.
For you are my dream deferred, and I will soon forget you.

Description:
This is a poem I wrote over a year ago, after being inspired from English class (the poem "Dream Deferred" by Langston Hughes) and also because of a guy I liked but the feelings were not mutual. So I was getting over him, and I realized he had too much going on that would've hurt me anyways....
Okay. I'll stop babbling now and let you read the poem. - Date: 07/17/2008
