- Here's to music, all kinds. There aren't many things greater than listening to the sweet sweet sounds of a guitar, played on stage to the rhythm of a bass and drums, millions of fans screaming. Or maybe the shrill tones of a trumpet and saxophone, the lyrics of some old jazz song belted out in the background along with the sound of coins being dropped into a jar to pay for their appartments. The childhood wish of people everywhere is to be a lead singer, guitarist or drummer in a famous band. It's becomming the new american dream. Bands like Bon Jovi, Guns 'N Roses, Metallica, Nirvana, Bob Marley and the Wailers, Aerosmith and The Jimi Hendrix Experience are immortal, living on forever in the hearts of their fans all over the world. Also their great songs, such as All Along the Watchtower, You Give Love a Bad Name, Master of Puppets, Sweet Child O' Mine, Dream On, Smells Like Teen Spirit, Three Little Birds and others are played on radio stations everyday, with people singing along in their cars. Music is forever imbedded in our society, making deaths of music icons Kurt Cobain, Freddie Mercury or Michael Jackson almost national tragedies. Music has defined periods of time, hairstyles, clothing, personalities and groups such as goths and preps. Overall, music is a greater part of who we are than most people know. The next time you here your favorite song, or another song on the air that everyone knows the wordds to but doesn't know who sings it, think a little more. Consider the lyrics, think of the time, place, situation and really what the song signifies. Don't just listen to it for listening. Whether it's Jazz, Metal, Rock, Classical, R&B or Rap, count your blessings and consider yourself lucky that there are great song writers and players out there, working daily for the entertainment of the millions. And if you're an artist your self, keep up the good work. Rock out, rock hard, and keep teh memorable songs comming. Realize how important your songs are to music as a whole and to the people around you. And lastly, play music for your fans, not profit. Play for the music, not the money. Keep comming up with new and innovative ways to play music, and don't ever let the man put you down.
