• one dollar and fifty five cents. that is all Jenny Watkins had to buy her beloved boyfriend a Christmas gift. she sighed and looked in her cracked mirror in the crummy bath room that slouched in a crowded apartment in New York. she was not the prettiest woman, with her eyes being to far away from each other and her nose too big, her lips the color of spoiled spam. in fact the only thing that actually made her the least bit attractive was her hair. the color of honey, her thick long hair gleamed in the dim light of the dirty rented apartment. she looked in the mirror with worried eyes, stroking her gorgeous pelt of golden, wavy hair. she then strode to her living room, put on her coat and hat, and walked out onto the frozen streets of her low class neighborhood, she then walked into town. she scanned all of the shop's windows displaying there finest pieces, trying to find anything even close to worthy of her boyfriend. she went to her favorite shop, h&b and looked into the window. there sat a set of two beautiful hair combs with real turquoise. how she ached for those hair combs! "but no time for that now" she said to her self "i have to find something for Patrick!" she pondered the streets looking for this one item in particular. she finally found it. it was a golden chain that he had wanted for years to put on his one and only true treasure, his pure gold pocket watch. but alas it must cost way more than one dollar and fifty cents. she knew what she had to do. down the street she stepped to a barber's shop. she stopped and looked at the mirror outside of the door one more time. again she streaked her golden- brown, color of honey hair. she looked at the mirror as if she were seven and it was forcing to do some thing she didn't want to do. she then straitened up and marched right in to the barber shop. were she was greeted with a " oh! Sinthia darling!i haven't seen you in ages!"
"yes i know. i have been growing out my hair." she said wondering if the barber knew her name was Jenny and not Synthia.
"well sit, sit please! just a trim?"
"no i would like to know how much money my hair is worth."
" oh dear i don't quite know! at the least, 20 dollars!"
twenty dollars? that was enough money to buy Patrick that gold chainandpay taxes! wow she was in awe but she managed to let out a little squeak of "oh, wonderful!" so then the barber took out a pair of huge scissors and just snipped the thick pelt of golden-brown, honey colored hair right off. and then was paid the twenty dollars. she went to go buy the golden chain.

Patrick came home after work at six o clock PM on the brisk Christmas Eve. He clomped up the hollow wood stairs that lead to his apartment. he opened the squeaky metal door and was greeted by warm hugs and "Merry Christmas"'s by his beautiful wife, Jenny. he loved the warm feeling of Christmas.he noticed that his wife was wearing her hair up, but, she never wears her hair up. hmmmm... Jenny broke his concentration by asking if he wanted any pound cake. Patrick murmured "oh yes, thank you." as jenny turned around to go get the pound cake, Patrick gasped. "Your hair dear! what happened to your hair? Tell me this instant!" Jenny's eye's got very watery and she spoke with a quivery voice. "I sold it."
Patrick could not believe his ears. I'm going mad, he thought to him self. for the odds of jenny cutting her hair was one to a million. Jenny burst out in tears. "You probably think I'm ugly now and... I'm a fool! But i did it for a good cause, for you!" she then held out the box of the new gold chain that had been tenderly, carefully wrapped for Christmas morning. "here," she said drying her tears. "unwrap it! tell me what you think!" Patrick did as his wife told him to and looked very suprized and happy and then sad again. "heh heh, you know what's funny? i sold my pocket watch to get you this." he then handed a box that said h&b.
she opened it with disbelief and then saw the beautiful turquoise hair combs that she had so desperately wanted. she then hugged Patrick with all of her might and cried "thank you, thank you, thank you!" she then let go and said " but Patrick, my hair will grow back. your watch is forever gone."
"it's okay," Patrick said,"your hair will be OUR most valuable possession." they then sat down and looked at each other lovingly, it had been a perfect Christmas.
