• ‎"Cin, look over here." The voice of a man, muffled behind the closet door where a young girl was hiding, called to another man. She was watching her father and uncle work on their research to help the Vampiric resistance. A group of freedom fighter consisting of vampires and humans working together to put an end to the constant warring between the species. Her father, Cinereus Nocte, was the head of the Nocte clan, and the fiercest warrior in the region. He had fought in many human wars, but for the past few decades, since the humans started to fight the vampires, he had been focusing his time more on peace then anything else. He often taught her fighting skills and sword lore, skills he hoped she would never have to use, but felt it necessary for her to know, just in case. Her uncle, Gravis Nocte, was older then her father, but despite him being the elder, he still respected her father as the leader. Gravis was never very enthusiastic about wars and fighting. He focused his youth on the studying of history and literature. "What is it Grav, has the new serum taken affect." She heard her father say to the other man, her uncle. "Yes, its working. Quickly Cin, come take a look." She heard a bang, then a eerie, red glow emanated from behind the door. She stepped back a little and tripped. The heavy door made a loud noise when it slammed shut. The men turned to the door and saw a small bit of grey cloth peeking through the bottom. Cin recognized that cloth, his wife had used it to make a dress for their 8 year old daughter, Cordis. He opened the door to find her, and saw that she had just been pulling at her dress, trying to get unstuck. A tear rolled down her cheek and she jumped into his arms. "Cordis, dear, were you watching me and uncle work." She looked at him and nodded, another tear rolling down the side of her face. He wiped the tear away and asked her why she was crying. "The red glow, what was that." She replied. Her father stroked his dark beard. "That is the beginning of the end of this war, dear." He smiled at her and sent her off to her room to play, but what he didn't know was that his first experiment with using a new substance the group had found would only mean the start of pain for his family.
