Now, if Travis wanted to be "serious" with Ali then why not tell people about her? Especially a girl who was her friend. Common sense, right? Right. Well, Ali was beginning to see that things were...different.
The day went on, and finally Travis and Ali talked. They decided to hang out that night. Ali's heart began to beat with mixed emotions. How would he treat her? What would he say?
Ali pulled up in her baby blue infiniti and waited for Travis to get in the car so they could go to Taco Bell. She asked him about his classes and talked about her hair. He seemed fine. They held hands in the Taco Bell, he would wrap his arms around her, and his hands would rest on his hips. Slowly, all of her fears drifted away. Back at his apartment, things seemed good, but soon they fell apart. The way he looked at her, the way he sat away from her, the way he treated her like any other girl...it all hit Ali in the face.
"Travis, what do you want?" She finally said as she held his face.
"I...don't know." he whispered.
Her hands drifted to her side, her lower lip quivered, and her eyes glassed over. She pulled away from him and walked near the bathroom and in front of the mirror. The girl staring back at her had dark brown hair with a red tent, red eyes, a flushed face, and a broken smile. Then her poker face fell, and the tears began to stream. She gasped for breath and wrapped her arms around her. Small whimpers escaped her lips, and the tears sliced her cheeks. Ali felt arms that were not her own wrap around her, and lips press to her hair.
"I don't want to hurt you. I didn't want to hurt you." He said while caressing her.
"Someone has to be hurt. It's normally me, but someone has to be." Her voice whispered.
"Tell me what's wrong. Tell me what's on your mind." Travis whimpered."
"I...I..." she stuttered and fought back tears, and his lips gently pressed against hers. "I feel...I don't feel special. At one point, you were crazy about me. Then you did a 180, everything changed. I just feel like another girl." she said in between gasps.
If this were some fairy tale, then Travis would beg for forgiveness or give some excuse or reason for all of what Ali said. And Ali wouldn't have let that guy kiss her, and her ex wouldn't bother her. Life would be all sparkles and rainbows. She and Travis would end up together.
Boys and girls, he didn't even deny what she said. He just cried with her. It was the first time he'd cry in years.
"I'd be stupid to let you go." He said.
Ali shrugged her shoulders. That statement was so over used, so cliche. At this rate, she'd be single for the rest of her life if people kept saying no guy "deserved" her. The rest of the evening was spent with Ali crying on Travis and an awkward good bye.
And an even more awkward text from Travis: I'm sorry.
Ali slept a dreamless night. She woke up feeling like a zombie. Her phone lay next to her clutched in her hand; there was nothing on it. She didn't text him and tried not to think about him. The day was spent at the pool, reading, doing summer work, and just being lazy. What else was she supposed to do?
Seconds felt like minutes, minutes felt like hours, hours felt like days, and so on. Basically, that day felt like an eternity. But it wasn't an eternity because that day did end. It ended with a bang.
Wishes do come true. Ali's did when her phone beeped with a text from Travis. But be careful what you wish for. "So it looks like you really enjoyed kissing that guy at warped tour." Ali's eyes widened and she dialed his number. No answer. She texted him asking what he was talking about. But one word came into her head: Leah. Ali quickly called her "best" friend. No answer. So she texted her too.
To help make this long story just a little bit smaller and simpler, Leah and Erin had taken pictures of Ali and that guy. Leah had sent Travis the pictures. Travis ignored all of Ali's desperate and dramatic calls and texts. He told her to let it go and give him the night. But her two best friends just stabbed her back, and she was falling apart. The dramatics just kept kicking in, and Ali lost control. At 2 AM, Ali realized how dramatic she had been once she regained some sanity. She texted Travis a simple apology for the dramatics and that she'd leave him alone. And that she did. Ali fell of the face of the earth. She cried herself to sleep and felt truly alone. Facebook blew up with statuses about her and all her friends whispered to Leah about her. And Travis? Well, he was no better.
And we all know the wonderful ex-boyfriend Chris can't stay out of this. He has to take care of Leah after all.
Ali had no idea what was coming.
