Chapter 65
Guardians’ Hurt
“A long time ago, God had a few very special angles. There were more than just Seraphim and Arc Angels, there were Guardians, nine Guardians to be exact. And together they were very powerful. They could do wondrous things like see into the future, read minds; create force fields, and much more.
“But one day, a group of strange people became angry with God and the humans he loved so much. God could only think to send his Guardians off into the world as humans themselves. He chose a group of Nephlim to host his Guardians. And when the time was right he called each of them together and said ‘I have chosen these people to be what will be called your Hosts. You will only be a voice in the back of their minds, but you must protect them so that they may help you protect my creations that I love. But your Host will eventually die, and when that day comes you will skip a generation and the oldest will be your new Host.’ And most of the Guardians were contempt with the plan. All but four. In these four were two pairs, they were in love. They asked the Lord if they would be together in their new lives, but he had answered no. They would only be together, when they came to their last generation.
“The decision had hurt the two pairs, but they carried through with the Lord’s command, and they still do today. It had also hurt two pairs of brothers and sisters who had to leave each other. But one day for sure all the Guardians will be reunited.”
“But Mommy,” I cooed with all the innocence a six year old could hold, “why did God do that if it hurt the Guardians? I thought he loved them.”
“He did Hai,” my mother said fiddling with my two long black pigtails and red kimono. “But he did what he had to so that he could save us humans. It was the only thing he could do.”
“But what about Jesus, could God send him?”
“No, God had to wait to send Jesus. But it’s ok, Hai, the Guardians will be together, for sure. Now let us go get ready for Lunar New Year.”
The sun still managed to beat heavily, but not enough to make me overheat in my black attire. My Converse shoes scuffed the ground as I made my way to the dorm. I had surrendered back into the feeling of my heart sinking and the world being nothing. My mind was deep in thought of that Chinese New Year. We always celebrated it differently, being Christian instead of Buddhist. Instead of wearing red to scare off the Nien, we wore it to remember how Jesus died for us. Our fire crackers celebrated our heritage. And we only cleaned our house top to bottom because it had to be done. But that New Year was different, but an overly excited six year old wouldn’t have cared much to the story when she could be setting off fire in the sky and receiving money in little red envelopes.
But now it hurt knowing that maybe this was that one time, that this time I was now a part of it. Everything hurt. I even got the theory that if my mother and grandmother both died that possibly I was next.
I grabbed the key in my hand and fumbled with it in the door. Once I got a good grip I turned it letting the door swing open.
“Hai, where have you been?” Drea said greeting me at the door, “And cough it up.” Drea held out her hand obviously remembering the fifty dollar bet.
“Not now, Drea,” I groaned not being in any such mood to see someone smile. “I just want to get ready for class ok?”
“Hai, did something happen,” Cana said compassionately hugging her knees sitting on the beige couch.
“She died ok, right in front of me,” I snarled my words and ran up the stairs avoiding the pain that came any way. I forgot to close the door behind me leaving it ajar; and buried my face in the pillows. Everything was becoming too much for me to handle, anything else would most likely break me. I’d be broken glass.
“Hai?” I heard Cana’s voice become nervous as she poked around the open door frame, “Are you ok?” She waited for my answer tensely.
I mustered up the desire to answer, “No.”
"Would you like to talk about it? I mean, I think I know how you feel, so I might be good at this cheering up thing.” Cana walked quietly in the door at sat down next to me hoping to brighten my mood. Her attempt was nice and caring, but so far not enough to full lift me up out of the dark.
I sat back up and ran my fingers through my atrous hair, “I don’t think it’s much of a talking subject.” Cana just wouldn’t quite get the fact that I was left without an answer. Left without knowing anything.
“You sure? I mean I never watched anybody die, but I think I know how you feel.”
“I think I might be a bit different in this situation,” I let out a despondent sigh realizing that Cana would most likely never feel the way I felt, not being sure if you’re in love all because of a legend. “How did you cope afterwards, Cana?”
“Well, I didn’t…not really…I try not to think about it. Listen if you don’t wanna talk about it I could always start opera singing.” Cana let out an inharmonious melody that I immediately recognized, but couldn’t remember the name of.
I giggled slightly at her working attempt, “Your beautiful singing has pulled me out of the dark abyss of dire despair.”
She spoke with a highly sarcastic voice, “Your welcome. You know I’m gonna try out for American Idol, I think I’m gonna win.”
“No other singer has a prayer of winning against you.”
“I have that affect on people.”
“That’s wonderful.”
“So do you feel better,” Cana said reassuringly with foggy eyes.
I smiled, “I do, a lot. Thanks Cay.”
She got up and scratched the back of her head ruffling the wheat field of hair, “Your welcome,” Cana said awkwardly with darting deep blue foggy eyes. If there was one thing I loved about Cana, it was the fact that she just always knew what it was to say or do. I don’t know what got us off on the wrong foot when we first met, but that was behind me for sure.
“I think I should get ready for class now,” I mumbled.
“Yeah, I’ll uhm see you later?” Cana said ineptly walking slowly out of to room and looking over shoulder flashing a resplendent smile.
“Sure,” I sighed with a melancholy tone tugging on my hair. But the pain couldn’t completely go away no matter what she said could take away the hurt, that Guardians probably felt too
9 Secrets You Didn't Know About Broken
What you didn't know, what you might like to know. here are a few secrets about the story you've been reading now why nine? There are nine books for each Guardian
1.) Rainbow and I started working on this story on September 3rd 2007 at our first Writers Workshop meeting of 6th grade
2.) It was originally two series hers and mine were two seperate books with two seperate names
3.) Rainbow's side was inspired off of a collie that lived outside her house and mine off of a club my friends and I started called the Whooper Heros (we were being super heros one day and someone messed up the pronunciation and it just stuck)
4.) The name changed like 10 diffrents times
5.) The book was orginally illustrated by us
6.) The book was actually about super heros until about the time we got a little bit more into the 'what happens after death' thing and it got bigger when I brought up the subject of vampires (which was basically a year ago!) and we ended up creating the Guardians
7.) We had a few extra characters to start but we decided to make cuts which was good or else we would've had room for John, Maureen, Ren, Edan, and many others!
8.) Hai and Cana have had diffrent names and appearances through out the time we have worked together
AND ONE THAT YOU WILL BE SHOCKED BY THE MOST (god this is really hard to type)
9.) a few characters switched ,not genders, but species!!!! Thats right.... gonk AHHH DONT KILL ME RAINBOW IM NOT GONNA SAY HIS NAME!!!!.... eek oh crap.
