Len waited until the flow of the strange girls dress could no longer be seen. Before standing up from behind the mass of construction tools, he looked around. The camp he was at was poorly designed and thought through. There were no towers, so the guards were not able to keep track of the prisoners at all time. Most of the guards were drunkards who only wanted a easy job. But Len wasn't complaining, it made life easier to have such a loose place to live. He'd probably be dead by now if he were in any other camp.
Slowly the day went night and Len made his way back to the bunks. He was wishing Kaito wasn't there yet, but his wish wasn't granted. Kaito was whistling a happy tune as he laid in his bunk. Len slowly made his way to bunk above his and laid down. Neither spoke for a while minute. "Sorry about today Len." Kaito mumbled. Len thought for a second then spoke,"The truth is the truth, it needed to be heard." He nearly forgot about why he was angry at Kaito.
"Mail call!" One of the officers shouted, entering room. As explained eailer, it was a poorly designed camp, but the people weren't idiots. To prevent the idea of people thinking this was truly a death camp, they allowed prisoners to send letters to loved ones outside of camp. Not only did this give the officers a chance to make the world believe that these camps were just to 'hold' people, but also it helped officers find where other offenders to the National Socialist German Workers' Party were.
These two words sparked an idea in Len's mind. He accepted the offer for a paper and pencil and began writing immediately. Kaito watched in confusion as the boy wrote and wrote. Who in the world could he be writing to? Kaito thought. Len's family was sent to other camps and their whereabouts were unknown. "Brother," Len started. "Promise me that my idea will work." Kaito smiled, "I give you my promise, but I doubt it means anything." Kaito was still puzzled about what the letter was about or even this idea, but Kaito always reassured Len when he needed it the most.
Kaito looked at the shine in Len's eye. He had that same shine in his eye the day he first met him. Len and Kaito were being shipped to a camp on the same train. Len, being new to all this, had many questions and concerns and Kaito was the closest friend. No matter what Kaito said let this boys happiness down. Len was trying new things and exploring the world, that was all he cared about. Sadly, Len found out that his whole family was shipped off to another camp. Kaito watching this once energetic boy break down and it broke his heart. The words still ring through Kaito heart. "I'm your family now, brother." Kaito gave Len a scared look. What has he came up with?!
