The cold air of a winter New York night was breathtaking as the winds were blowing through the maze that was the skyscrapers of the city. Two friends were on driving to a formal gathering as a couple.
“How can a 14 year old teen travel the ends of the Earth and still can’t find a place to hide from one person?” A young man said as he drove to their destination.
His companion egged him on “Stop ranting about your extreme game of hide and seek. Tonight, you were supposed to be my date to this dance.”
“I know but why me? You could have gotten one of your customers or some cute guy off the street way more easily.” He replied.
She looked at the sky through her window to her right and said, “Yeah, I could have,” Her voice suddenly turned in a flirtatious way and smirked, “but you’re way more fun.”
He simply rolled his eyes and thought, “So distasteful.”
As the thought left his mind, he noticed that they have arrived at a tall building. Every inch of it glowed except for the top floor which appeared to be shining similar to a lighthouse. After he gave his key to valet, they enter the establishment.
“I want you to act like an actual date, not like someone who was forced here.” She said in a strict tone.
“Fine, I will act my role.” He answered as if he had no other option but to agree.
She smiled in victory “Good, that’s all I want.” Hugging his arm like any other female would on a date as they entered the elevator.
Looking down as the elevator traveled to the 24 stories of the entire complex, the young woman was amazed at the bird’s eye view of the city she has lived in her entire life. Though looking at the concrete bordering the sidewalk frightened her. Not realizing it was him, she retreated into her companion’s arms and he accepted it, knowing she didn’t like heights.
“I didn’t know you were scared of heights that much.” He said in a calm tone.
Before she could do anything, the ascent came to a sudden stop and the doors of the elevator opened to a ball where lords and ladies would gather. Both were greeted by a woman who looked to be 2 years older than the couple. She wore a red dress sparkled in the light of the room and complimented the super model frame of her body. She had red hair and brown eyes. The moment he saw this woman in front of her, he knew the whole reason for this gathering.
“Um, Juliet, I’m not feeling well, may we place leave?” Acting as if there was something wrong with his stomach.
Frustrated, She stomped her foot and yelled, “MILES GRIMIORE, YOU ALWAYS DO THIS! WHY SHOULD WE LEAVE?!”
Knowing she wouldn’t understand, he walked forward and said, “Because I’m not here by coincidence. Isn’t that right Scarlet?”
In a split second, Miles grab Scarlet by the neck and sent both him and his victim plummeting to the Earth.
During the masquerade, Miles screamed, “Wasn’t Paris a big enough disappointment?”
Scarlet only smiled as both hit the ground simultaneously.
