Halloween
There were once two twins named Daniel and Russell. The two of them were identical in appearance, but different in any other aspect. Daniel, taking after his father, was very pompous with a high sense of superiority from his inherited wealth. Daniel was at the top of his school’s social ladder. Anyone who wanted to be like Daniel followed him, while those who Daniel thought were lesser beings were ridiculed mercilessly. During lunch Friday, Daniel announced that he would be throwing a party at his stately abode in Duskridge. Hundreds of Daniel’s classmates were invited. The party was invitation only, and nobody wanted to miss his party.
Before leaving school that Friday, when the final bell rang, a pale, gaunt young man bumped into Daniel while Daniel was making his way to his car.
“Out of my way,” Daniel said as he knocked the stripling into a murky puddle. “Retard.” Daniel’s friends pursued him, cackling at the student’s misfortune.
When Daniel got home, his father already hired a crew to begin preparations for the party. The lobby of the estate was as daunting as space itself. There was enough space to build a small football stadium. And the crew already got to work on ambience. The walls were covered from floor to ceiling in a mold-like plaster that was designed to release simulated clouds of miasmas on contact. Daniel also designated different areas of the room for different concepts. The witches’ lair was the area that held the refreshments in assorted cauldrons. Chefs were hired to act as witches in a coven, making potions and what not.
In another area of the lobby, massive generators were brought in to reproduce the creation of Frankenstein’s monster, who remained petrified on the elevating operating table. Daniel had the workers install a stereo system here for a source of musical entertainment. A crypt was built to represent Dracula’s lair, above which stood the latter of the setting: a cemetery littered with zombie extremities. The party attendants would be dressed as ghouls, goblins, lycanthropes, and other things of that nature. With the atmosphere of his home the way it was, Daniel knew terror would be prominent at the party.
It was Halloween night, and Russell’s friends had invited him to a Halloween party in Duskridge. Russell’s mom said it would be okay as long as Russell didn’t get into too much trouble. His mother scoffed at this statement, thinking, As if RUSSELL would get into any trouble! Anyone who knew Russell had great affinity to him. Russell was kind and generous and had an immaculate record. There was no reason NOT to trust Russell. Russell told his mother goodbye and left amongst his friends. Russell thought Duskridge would be a nice change of scenery from his place.
When Russell and his friends made it to the party, the bouncer would only let Russell go ahead. At first Russell declined the offer, but his friends told him to go on without them and have fun. So he did. Russell was dressed as a ring leader, which he thought was amusing because he couldn’t picture himself bossing people around. Apparently, other party-goers applauded his gesture and were very friendly to him for no reason he could think of.
After hanging around the macabre cemetery display, Russell realized he had to use the restroom, and as he sat there in his stall he heard some footsteps rushing up to the stall he was occupying. There were four heavy knocks on his door.
“Occupied!” Russell stated, assuming it was probably just a confused party guest who drank some spiked punch. The knocks came again. “I’ll be done in just a minute!” Russell reassured to the stranger on the opposite side of the door as he hurriedly pulled up his pants. He opened the stall door. The mysterious figure stood there with a Michael Meyers mask on.
“Excuse me.” Russell passed through the man and walked up to the sink.
“You don’t even remember me, do you?” The strange figure suddenly spoke.
“No,” Russell replied in a confused manner. “Should I?”
“Well then,” the character reached into his pocket. “Maybe this will refresh your memory!”
“Wha-” Suddenly, Russell was stabbed with a small dagger.
“HOW DO YA REMEMBER ME NOW, HUH!” Russell fell to the ground as the individual peeled off his mask. “EVERYDAY, YOU TORTURED ME LIKE SOME KIND OF CURSE, BUT WHEN YOU PUSHED ME YESTERDAY- THAT WAS THE FINAL STRAW!” The assailant looked like a skeleton with blood on his hands. He then jabbed Russell once more with the dagger. “NOW YOU KNOW HOW MUCH IT HURTS! H-H-HOW MUCH PAIN YOU’VE CAUSED ME!” Russell began to pass out.
At that moment, Daniel walked into the bathroom to witness the gruesome scene.
“What th-” Daniel got so nauseous from the scene that the bile started pouring from Daniel’s mouth in horror. Now the vengeful stripling fell into a stammering shock.
“B-b-but you w-w-were j-just there…” He looked again to reassure himself. “… and y-you’re o-over…” The anathema turned paler. Daniel finally got a hold of himself.
“Oh my GOD-” Daniel tried to break free from the room, but the adolescent pulled him back in.
“No- NO! Y-Y-YOU DON’T GET TO LEAVE!” He took the dagger again and shoved it deep into Daniel’s stomach, pushing him into the corner with his twin brother whom he had just met. “No… NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO, THIS WASN’T SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN! TH-TH-THERE’S NO WAY OUT!” As he stood there convulsing from fear, with a last frantic jerk, the murderer slit his throat, and the two new brothers died side by side due to Daniel’s selfish mistake.
Some may think that the link between twins is just superstition… I believe that it is more than we could ever understand.
