A lot of people said that Tuesday was a weird name, Tuesday always just smiled and agreed but she abstrusely loved her name; not many people were named after a day in the week after all, and it meant that nobody ever forgot her name, or who she was. And nobody ever did.
She was never the most popular girl in school, but this suited her well, she sat in the middle of the school’s society, reading books and drawing pictures when she was supposed to be learning maths or writing essays, and she never really talked much. She had friends, and of course she would speak to them but she never poured out her heart, or revealed anything about herself. She was never left out, or angry; she was just quiet; happy to stand back and watch people, and the effects they had on others. If she was ever bored with being the way she was, she never revealed it; her face always held the look of content happiness which never shifted.
Nobody knew the truth about Tuesday, the reason she could be so clever without once looking at a Textbook, or how she could appear and disappear so suddenly without a words notice, or how sometimes, when she walked, she looked as if she were floating. Everybody just assumed that she was naturally clever and quick and graceful; not one person stopped to think about it; perhaps it was because she was so very quiet, or perhaps it was because she didn’t want them to know.
You see, Tuesday was not like you and I; she was different. By different, I do not mean strange or odd, just not the same as everyone else. She could make things float that could not float before, she could speak to the flowers and make them dance in the wind and every once in a while, she could control the rain and snow and make it lighter or heavier, depending on how she felt. Her abilities were the reason she was so serene, so calm; but they were also her undoing.
They exploited her, the people of the town. They discovered that Tuesday’s capabilities, and that they were controlled by her emotion; and they took advantage. They wanted to impress, to intimidate the citizens of the other towns, to prove that their town was the most powerful and the greatest. So they hurt her, they destroyed the windless block that Tuesday has created to stop herself from hurting anyone and they revealed the true power within. The town was thrown into a Titian Storm, the sky lashed rain down upon the people, the wind ripped apart their buildings and landscape until there was nothing left. Nothing but Tuesday, standing still upon the wreckage she had created, with a single tear running down her cheek.
Nobody ever saw Tuesday again, many rumours drifted around none of them were even close to the truth. The town rebuilt itself and moved on, turning a blind eye to what they so cruelly did; without remorse. It is said that every year, just once, Tuesday will appear on the day she was named after, sitting on top of the very spot she was eradicated, with a book in her hand and an untroubled expression on her face.
