• The car shifted into third gear. He was mad and drunk. He was gonna push his car to its limits and show the world that he had the best of it all. The accelerator read 40 then 45. It shifted into fourth. He went from 30 in a quiet suburb to 75 on an urban street.

Lisa walked up to the door and straightened herself out. She had been in love with Marcus since she was 5. Now 11 years later he was starting to notice her. She pulled her auburn hair to her side and pulled her goofy hat off. Her mother insisted she wear it on cold evenings and she did until she got a block away from sight. Her deep brown eyes sparkled with anticipation. She raised her hand and knocked on the door two times.

She stood there for awhile, her hands were tucked in her coat. A click originated from the other side of the door and it opened. There he stood, Marcus, bundled up and looking unmoved. His eyes held a sort of coldness and nonchalentness about them when he looked at Lisa.

"Hey", he said while leaning on the door.

"H-H-Hi!", Lisa squeaked back. She was always like this around him, her palms got sweaty and her heart raced faster than a NASCAR racer on the last stretch.

"I was just about to head out. We need more food.", he said as he glanced back. The house was filled with people. People she didn’t know, or like, glared back at her.

"Hey Marcus! C'mon!", a voice yelled from the back.

"Hold on a minute", he yelled back.

Marcus turned back towards Lisa and glanced at her. He asked her here for a purpose. He knew she liked him, and would do anything for him. She was his errand dog and she had no idea.

"I'm kind of afraid to leave the house with all these people.." he stated as he glanced behind him then back at Lisa.

Lisa shifted and her eyes lit up.

"Why don't I go get the groceries?" she asked shyly.

Bingo, that’s what he was waiting to hear.

"Are you sure? You don't mind?" he asked. Faking an interest and concern.

"Sure! I don't mind at all! Just give me a list and I'll go get the stuff and come right back."

Marcus took a small list , one ten and a twenty out of his back pocket. Marcus handed her the list and money. He took a scarf off of a nearby hook and wrapped it around her neck.

"To keep you warm. Be safe and hurry back." Marcus stated and closed the door.

Marcus' friend grasped his shoulder and shook him, "Dude, your freakin evil!" he said and started laughing.

Lisa smiled grasped the scarf and skipped across the street. She knew he liked her, 'He must!' she thought. The store wasn't too far away and she would return soon.

The police radios filled with a report of a young and drunk teenager on a rampage. The mother had reported him after he stormed out of the house and literally broke through their garage. Cops were out and around. This kid was dangerous and given the circumstances a serious accident could occur.

He was playing dangerous and dirty. Snow was falling and his headlights were turned off- he thought it was just a game.

Lisa put the money and receipt in her front pocket. She was loaded with four medium heavy bags. Her pace was light and quick but careful. The snow had froze on some parts of the sidewalk; causing ice patches to freeze over the concrete path. She reached the corner and adjusted the bags. Her wrist was cut into small segments; the bags were heavier than what she thought.

A gust came from the north. Blowing her hair across her face and blew the scarf onto the pavement. She gasped and ran forward; kneeling beside it careful not to rip it.

Marcus glanced out of the window, she was taking longer than he expected. Then he saw her. She was kneeling in the street, what was wrong? His eyes were caught by a piece of fabric on the ground. 'That Darn scarf' He thought and grabbed his coat. Marcus walked outside, clutching his coat.

"LISA!" he yelled. She didn’t move. 'Didn't she hear me?' "LISA!" He repeated. Nothing.

The car squealed around a corner-its speed had dropped from traffic but he was going to keep it at a constant 50. It was sharp and unnerving. The guy had no control over what was going on. His anger had flooded his vision; there were no cars. No people. They were all just blurs. Obstacles. He floored it. Uncaring and unconcerned.

Lisa was frantic now. The scarf had been caught by the asphalt and the threads were now caught in the street. Her eyes were welling up with tears. Marcus had given her the scarf and she was not going to let it get ruined. Her hands worked into the groove and she got it out. She held onto the scarf and began hurrying across the street when a sound caught her ear. It was too late. She took a breath in and let it out-a scream, her last breath.

Marcus stood on the other side. She was standing back up with the scarf 'Stupid Girl.' He thought. Suddenly he caught it. 'No. What in the-'

His thought ended quickly as his mouth opened.

"LISA!!! MOVE LISA! MOVE NOW!" he yelled with all his might. His body was shaking but immovable. 'Move! NO MOVE! PLEASE MOVE!' he thought to himself.

The driver's breathing was high and shallow. Suddenly he caught it. The street light lit it up-a person. A girl. His eyes widened and he shifted to the brakes. "NO!' he thought.

The screech of the brakes could be heard until a sharp his pitched scream filled the air. It was the scream of a life ended. A last breath taken.

The car continued on its war path. The driver frantically trying to stop. The boy screaming. And the girl who was taken advantage of by the jerk and the careless driver.
Metal hit, bones were broken and her frail body was thrown against the giant beast. The window crashed in, the car swerved, the tires burned. Her body went through the window then lashed outwards and began going over the vehicle. She slid past the roof and bounced off the back and landed on the ground.

The car screeched to a stop. Time stood still and Marcus fell down on his knees. People were crying, they had seen everything from the window and door. One girl called for an ambulance. Two girls ran out to go check on the driver. No one dared approach Lisa. Her body lay in a heap. It appeared unreal-no one knew an angel could be so fragile.

An angel statue stands underneath a Tree of Heaven. The angel is standing, her wings open while small animals surround her. The headstone reads
    'Lisa,
Angel in this world and the Next'
