My brother and I have been on this boat for about two weeks now, though we would seem to be the most unlikely of twin brothers, myself, a five foot tall monk, and Ivellious, my brother, a six foot seven fighter. I was the kind of elf that would hit you unarmed and you’d be out cold for weeks on end, he was an abnormal elf, his amazing physique gave him the strength to use two great swords each in one hand! I hope we reach land soon enough I heard the thoughts of Suronous my sonic bracer of amazing prowess, as his trail of thought finished I too hoped we’d find land soon, I could only hope that the map we found would indeed lead us to Bergan, that vile wizard that altered our elven forms, turning me into a half-scorpion, my brother a half-eagle and a few other members of our party, he was the man that came into our village and slaughtered our families before our very eyes.
“Sovliss, my brother, we’ve spotted land not to far from here, we should arrive in about a day or so.” I head my brothers voice as he ducked to enter my cabin, “I thank you Ivellious, I was beginning to think that Jace’s information was incorrect,” I had replied “But it seems he was correct after all, though his warning still rings in my head.” He warned us that our destination may indeed lead us to the vile wizard Bergan but it also leads us on a direct course to Dragonic Isle “You may have defended this land from all things dark and cruel, but you are headed to a land were five mighty evil’s rule, the mightiest of all dragons, the legendary five chromatics.” Those words bothered me still, of course we had heard of the legendary chromatics, all the world had. “I too was worried, but it seems that Lianda’s brother was correct after all.” My brother had told me. That night, I was contemplating why we were going to Dragonic Isle, the reason we were hunting Bergan. He had stolen an egg of each of the goodly dragons, one of a bronze dragon, of a silver dragon, of a gold dragon and of a copper dragon. I felt the anger and rage of Suronous at the thought of the action, and as we neared the Isle I heard Suronous trying to coax me into going by myself.
“Hey, Sovliss, are you still awake?” It seemed very near to dawn when I heard Aramil’s voice, “Its almost dawn and there are marshes we must travel through, I suggest a small scouting party consisting of at most four people.” Aramil wasn’t just a cleric of Paller but he was also one of the best strategists I’ve ever known. “You are right, now the only question is who do we take with us?” I replied “W-Wait who said I’d be going with-“He was cut off by the voice of Ivellious “I’m not about to let you have all the fun Sovliss, I’m coming with you!” Ivellious so boldly stated “You boys aren’t going to leave me out of this little adventure, after all I know all about the island, I have memorized my brothers stories he’s told them so much” I heard Lianda state as she appeared out of the shadows. “Well it looks like I don’t have a choice here now do I?” Aramil asked us, all that came was Lianda’s curt reply of “No, you really don’t.”
We disembarked shortly after breakfast, carrying little because we had to travel through the swamp. “Oh and by the way boys, were facing the Slayer of Hero’s Blight in this swamp, so be careful For the most part the day was looking to be uneventful, until that is we came across a large clearing in the swamp. There we saw them, dozens of ogres, hundreds of orcs and near a thousand undead, and it seemed as though the very swamp in itself was enough to send a shiver down my spine, and unfortunately one of the ogres spotted us. “Oh for the love of, great just what we needed, well Sovliss, I get dibbs on the ogres, you can have the undead all to yourself, lucky you!” Ivellious said out loud as the Ogres approached us, I simply nodded with my reply. Many people would think you suicide to charge thousands of undead unarmed only wearing a sonic bracer, but then again those people didn’t know I was a monk. Gathering my speed I ran circles around the undead creating with the sonic a wall of swamp water, and as I launched myself into the middle Suronous gleefully sent shockwaves of fire, electricity and of course, sonic energy all through out that horde, and then the wave of foul smelling swamp water engulfed them. I turned to see my brother with his two great swords drawn, Granious the Intelligent great sword of chaos and energy, and a sword of my brothers own creation, two long blades lined the hilt, with a line of red and powerful energy down the middle, the hilt in itself, slanted to my brothers grip, and as he felled an ogre with it, the red energy exploded in a mighty fireball. Then I felt it, the rumbling of the swamp, and I saw Blight rise up out of the swamp. Lianda warned us of him “Blight is known as the Slayer of Hero’s, his breath has killed more living beings than any of the dragons in the entire world, be careful and aware of him at all times.” As he launched a stream of acid towards me all I could say and think was “Foolish dragon” as I jumped in the air easily avoiding his breath attack then after doing a triple back flip and landing it perfectly, I charged him. As my fist connected solidly with his jaw I failed to see the scars of past hero’s including the blow dealt by Gilgamesh that took his left eye and left a scar, it was then I knew that I had struck the wrong dragon.
The events of the day played through my mind all evening. How could I have struck the wrong dragon? It’s not possible, is it? No it can’t be it must have been Blight, but he didn’t have the scar from Gilgamesh the King then I heard Suronous giving me reassurance. Well, when you look at it in the long run its one less evil dragon we will have to kill. After thinking it all over I told Ivellious, and man did he ever flip out. “WHAT!! You killed the wrong dragon! How could you have killed the wrong dragon! This is great, just great! Not only did you not kill Blight, he now knows that were on the Island! Well done Sovliss!” The entire group took about twenty minutes to calm him down, and when he was calmed down I took Suronous’ reassurance “Well brother look at it this way, there’s one less evil dragon for us to deal with while on this island, and the amount of treasure we got out of its hoard is more than enough to sustain five elves for life, and what’s more Blight will be expecting an army, not just four highly skilled individuals such as ourselves.” And after thinking on what I had said he replied, “I suppose your right, my brother, but must have obliterated his rib cage after shattering his jaw and obviously killing him with I direct punch in between the eyes?” I could tell he was trying to suppress the whining sensation in his voice. All I could do in response is laugh, and then we heard Lianda call us, “Hey, if you two are done arguing then the foods just about ready here!”
That night I could feel the unholy energy coming off of the woods, and the very strong evil aura emanating it, I simply could not sleep. I decided that I would go on my own to slay Blight. As I made my way from camp I heard “Going somewhere my brother?” It was Ivellious “Perhaps why?” I reply rather quickly. “Can that garbage Sovliss, you may be able to fool our friends but not me, remember I am you twin brother. If you’re going out there to kill Blight then there is nothing in the Abyss or the nine hells of Baator that will stop me.” I could tell, by his words and his tone there was no point in arguing with him. “Just like old times then?” I asked him even though I knew his answer “Of course, just like old times.”
We headed out without a second of hesitation, going back to the very spot we were early today. We saw all the orcs, ogres and undead we had slew, only now the orcs and ogres were undead. Now I understood the feeling of this swamp, it was Unhallow, that is to say, anything that dies within this swamp, is reincarnated as an undead. There was only one difference; I could feel Blight emitting this evil spell and I knew that this time, I would not kill the wrong dragon. “Well my brother, lets go kill us some dragons and undead” I heard my brother tell me, and as I nodded my agreement, he drew his two great swords, Granious and Twin Devastation. Ivellious was indeed a rare kind of fighter, and a very rare kind of elven fighter. He was the kind of elven fighter legends are based off of, the kind of fighter with the strength to wield two mighty great swords, the kind of fighter that could take a thousand hits and keep on moving, and because of what Bergan did to us, the kind of fighter with such explosive rage and anger that it would even make Errtu, the most powerful demon in all of the Abyss cower in fear. With a second nod from me, we launched ourselves into the crowd, myself, hitting and smashing the faces and bodies of all that came near, and Ivellious was hacking, smashing, slashing and just plain devastating the enemy, it was more than indefinably someone I was glad to call my brother, and someone I would not want as an enemy no matter the circumstance.
We head a mighty roar that sounded like a thousand claps of thunder at once. I saw two dragons rising from the murky depths of the swamp, well a dragon and a dracolich.
“Who dares to stand against me? For I am the Slayer of Hero’s! One of Tiamats five proudest sons! I am Blight!” and though he was a dragon, he spoke in the language of elves. I could see Ivellious standing proud as he sent back his counter challenge. “Who dares challenge the Slayer of Hero’s? I’ll tell you who, I, Ivellious Liadon challenge you Blight.” I could see the determination on his face, if he was not the one to take down the slayer of hero’s then he would make sure to give him enough wounds so that he would not be going to the nine hells of Baator alone. “And I, Sovliss Liadon, challenge you dracolich, I slew you once, so clearly I could do it again.” I challenged the dracolich to make sure that Ivellious would not be overwhelmed.
With a mighty roar our opponents charged us, I was ready and waiting for my foe, channeling all of my energy unsheathing my claws and tail from the mutation focusing all of Suronous’ energy into one barrage of punches, each one more powerful than the last, and when I had finished it seemed as though the dracolich had hardly flinched at the blows! As a counter attack it struck out with its rotting limbs, its wings, claws, it even tried to bite me, all missed except the tail sweep, which hit me squarely in the chest, biding through the pain, I summoned all the energy I had left into one punch, and I struck it right between the eyes, and with the massive sonic energy built up, the punch sent chunks of bone and rotting flesh into the sky. I looked over to see my brother battling Blight, for every claw swipe, tail sweep, for every strike of the wing or bite attack, my brother brought up either Granious or Twin Devastation to block it, and when he came in for bite attacks, he guarded with both. Then I saw the hordes of undead rising up again, to strike down my brother while he was not looking. I could not allow it; I used what energy I had left to rush by them and with the sonic wall following behind me, and it blew them into chunks. The shock wave was however, cut short by Blight, I did not see him turning and launching his acidic breath, and as it hit me from behind I could feel my very life force leave my body.
“You… You… BLIGHT YOU SON OF A b***h! I SWEAR ON MY SOUL THAT I WILL KILL YOU!” I shouted out, all of the absolute rage, and pure hatred I had for Blight were magnified a thousand fold upon seeing the death of my brother, Sovliss. It boiled my blood, and through all our journeys together I had learned to keep my anger inside, all of it, from past and present was released in an all mighty primal roar, that rivaled even that of Tempus, a god of war. Throwing blow after deadly and devastating blow at Blight, with each hack, slash and smash I let out my rage and anger, as well as in an enraged yell at him “NOW YOU DIE BLIGHT! MAY ALL OF THE HERO’S OF THE PAST FIND PEACE AT LAST WITH YOUR DEATH! BY MY HAND BLIGHT YOU WILL DIE!” and with a mighty cross chop, I took his wings, following up with a whirlwind that took out his right eye, and with one final blow, brining both blades down crossing one and other I crushed his skull, and with the mightiest of explosions from Twin Devastation I destroyed Blight. I had not only crushed his skull, but with all of my rage I had torn his head off his body and split it in two.
“Sovliss, My brother, I slew him for you, I hope that you have found peace now, with all of the Hero’s Blight had slain, you, my brother were the greatest of them all. I hope that you have found peace in his death.” I said aloud to the sky holding back my tears, and as I looked around, I saw the dead swamp come back to life, no longer was it a thing of death and destruction, but a thing of life, I saw there in the sky, the two gods of nature, Obad-Hai and Ultima, the Silver half-dragon druid I also saw Ehlonna, the goddess of the Forest singing the forest back to life. After they had finished Ultima came up to me and said, “You honored your brothers spirit with the slaying of Blight, he will be well taken care of in the heavens above earth.”
