• CHAPTER 15 - WAIT...WHAT?

You never truly know the chemistry between two people. Sometimes their kisses could cure a thousand depressions all at once. Their voice could calm even the worst of tempers. But could that alone prove two people worthy, despite their differences?

I stared at Kai deep in the eyes. What did he mean "if we're friends"? I thought we had passed that stage a while ago. The kiss I had been questionable about was being clouded and kept secret by a friendship excuse. Friendship excuses could never mean a good thing if it's hiding something.

Kai tried to let me go, but I didn't let go of him. I grabbed onto his shirt and refused to let him release me, "Give me some answers, Kai,"

He smirked again and kissed me hard, knocking me into the counter. He gripped my shirt with his right hand and my hip with his left hand and his arms were wrapped around me like an iron cage. He spun me around, lips still locked to mine, and we fell onto the kitchen floor. He was kneeling and holding me up to him as I was lying on the ground like a rag doll. My ankle was starting to ache again, but I was easily distracted by our moment. I seemed for forget how frustrated I was when I could taste Kai's breath and feel myself being pulled closer to him.

"Kai," I grabbed onto his face and pryed him away from me, "Kai, I need a breather!"

He laughed at me and firmly pressed his lips on my throat as I regained my breath. I sat myself up, allowing myself out of his grip.

"Let me finish the food," I straightened out my shirt. My back felt a little breezier than usual. I reached behind me and there was a big new hole in the back of my shirt from Kai's nails ripping it open.

I beamed at Kai, "You didn't have to rip my shirt open,"

    "Maybe I had to,"

I stood up, ignoring him. What an idiot. He's making me look like a whore.

    "Don't say that. You're not a whore."

I ignored him again and made my way out the kitchen, using the counter and then the fridge as support. In a swift second, Kai had scooped me off my feet and sped up the stairs and into the bedroom. He gently landed me on my feet and smiled at me as I stared at him questionably.

"It would take you all day to hike up those stairs,"

"I made it downstairs in less than half a day,"

"Going down is easier than going up,"

I ignored him yet again and fished out a shirt from the dresser. I waved my hand at him, "Go away,"

And he was gone. I removed my shirt, thankful it wasn't one of my favorites, and slipped a fresh shirt on. I took the time to pull my hair up into a messy bun and peeled off the bandages from a couple of days ago. The wounds were healed already; I was becoming accustomed to the quick healing, I assumed. I stared at the hand Kai had lightly bitten after the Werewolf attacked and thought for a moment. The wound was healed overnight since it wasn't so deep.

"Kai?" it almost sounded like I was talking to myself, but he teleported into the room anyways.

"Yeah?" he approached me cautiously, as if he thought he'd break my ankle again if he touched me. He probably heard what I was thinking.

"Go ahead," I leaned my head over, revealing my bare neck to Kai.

I looked over at him as he smiled weakly and shook his head, "You're still healing. You need your own blood."

Okay, I was getting really irritated with him always refusing. I walked up to him and grabbed onto his shoulders, "Kai, lean over a little,"

He leaned over obediently so that his eyes were almost level with mine. I leaned in quickly and gnawed on his neck. He froze for a moment in utter confusion. He clamped onto my wrists and pulled me off of him easily. There was no damage at all to Kai's skin. I'm sure I hurt myself more than I hurt Kai. Kai glared at me and a tint of red glowed in his cheeks.

"What's your problem?!" he seemed pretty embarrassed and I smirked at him for once. He rubbed his neck, "Well, what was that about?"

"Monkey see, monkey do," was all I had to say.

"You're really that desperate for me to bite you?"

"I'm not saying it's a joy ride or a pleasure of some sort. I'm just saying I want to make sure you're okay from the battle."

He smirked back at me, "That's a pretty crappy job you did if you were trying to give me a hickey,"

Good God. I didn't even really know what a hickey was. I would only assume it was something intimate. Kai smirked again.

    "I guess so,"

"Enough about hickeys. Just bite me. I need to finish the food."

Kai already had his hands on my hips and pressed me up against the wall before I took another breath and he had already bitten me. I didn't even feel it. It felt like nothing more than a mere pressure put against my neck. I only looked up and listened to Kai's thirst being quenched by my blood. His thumbs unconsciously traced circles around my hips and it caused me to blush scarlet.

"You have an act of stroking me unconsciously with your thumbs, don't you?"

I could feel him move lightly as he chuckled while still feeding for himself. He stopped his circling with his thumbs and clutched my hips tighter and pressed me against the wall harder. I pressed my hands against the wall on both sides of me and continued to wait. He finally satisfied himself and removed his teeth from my neck. He chuckled, his breath warm from the fresh blood.

    "I guess I do,"

"Are you still hungry after that? Do you still want me to cook?"

    "Yeah, sure,"

I stood and waited patiently for Kai to let me go. I stared at him, "Are you going to let me go?"

He only stared at me as if he were staring into space. His face was so glazed over and spaced out. He smiled at me again and fondled his lips at the angle of my jaw under my ear.

"I'm going to be one lucky son of a b***h,"

    "Um, excuse me?"

    "Eh, it's nothing,"

Whatever, "You've been acting strange, Kai. Is there something wrong?"

"Nah. I'm just still pissed at that wolf."

"There's something else going on. If you're not willing to tell me, then I'll just have to get on with it."

I slipped his hands off of me and stumbled out of the room. Kai picked me up from behind and slung me over his shoulder. I punched his back and protested at his chivalry but he only ignored me as I ignored him earlier. He put me down in the kitchen again and pat my back.

    "Okay, now make my food,"

"Don't be so demanding! Why would you want me to cook anyways?"

"The better you get at cooking, the more you can make my food,"

"Keep that up and I'll starve you," I jabbed my finger into his chest, not fazing him at all.

Just in the nick of time, my phone started ringing. I quickly dug into my pocket and fished out my phone; Kira was calling. I quickly opened my phone and held it up to my ear.

    "Kira?"

"Oh, hi, Arisa," he seemed oddly surprised that I answered my own phone, "How have things been going?"

"Um, good, I guess," I looked up at Kai, wondering if I should tell Kira about the Werewolf attack. He shook his head.

"I'm going to be heading back soon. Matsuda has been worried about you two since nobody else was there during the full moon."

"Kai was here," I looked at Kai again, wondering if he heard Kira. Yeah, he heard him.

Kai grabbed my phone and held it up to his ear with my hand still holding the phone, "What is that supposed to mean?!"

I could hear mumbles from the other side and I could tell they were having the typical, immature, brother-brother brawl. Kai let go of my hand and I held the phone up to my ear again.

"So, when are you heading back, Kira?"

I lost my train of thought when Kai grabbed my left hand and started playing around with my fingers. He examined them one-by-one, concentrating on something. He stared deeply at my ring finger, causing me to turn scarlet.

"Is that okay with you, Arisa?"

I shook my head, snapping out of my daydream, "I'm sorry, what?"

"I'm on my way now. I will be about an hour or two."

"Yeah, that's fine. I can hold off lunch until then."

"You sure?" he sounded reluctant, "You don't have to wait for me."

"Yeah, I'm sure. I'll just take another nap."

I froze right where I was when I felt and saw Kai kiss my ring finger. The heat rose from my toes to the ends of my hair. He kept flipping my hand over and over and kept kissed it lightly all over. I could feel my face getting hotter and I spaced out on Kira again.

"So, I guess I'll see you in a little bit, I guess,"

I nodded like a buffoon, "Y-yeah," and I hung up. I glared at Kai, "What are you doing?"

    "Examining your fingers,"

    "Why??"

He pondered a moment, "Seeing which one would be easier to chew off,"

I frowned at him, "Yeah right, you wouldn't do that,"

He smirked at me, "Oh, wouldn't I?"

"Well, can you knock it off? It's...embarrassing."

"Really?" his face seemed surprisingly curious, "Why?"

"You keep kissing my ring finger,"

"It's going to be the easier one to chew off, so you'd better enjoy it while you can. Why is that such a big deal if I kiss it?"

I pulled my hand away from him and turned to the cutting board, "It's nothing,"

Everything Kai had been doing has made me curious and worried. He's so clingy all of a sudden. I was only becoming more and more suspicious of that kiss which to Kai, seemed like no big deal. If I'd had known what that kiss meant, I'd have stopped him long ago...

    ~*~*~*~*~*~

Kira smiled widely as he entered the front door and removed his shoes. He pat me on the head lightly.

"Nice to see you again, kid,"

"It hasn't been that long, Kira,"

Kira sighed, "Matsuda wanted me to check up on you guys since the full moon...and that he wanted to be sure you two were okay after staying at the Necromantic Hunter's house," he spit out the "Necromantic Hunter's" part.

"I'm sorry, Kira, but I was sick so he offered us to stay at his house. And also, he had a connection with my family, I guess."

Kira's face shifted to surprise, "Really? Kai never told me that."

I beamed at Kira, "What did he say?"

"He just said the hunter was a freak with a gun about ready to kill both of you,"

I could hear Kai snickering in the living room and I glared in his direction, although I couldn't see him. I sighed and turned away from Kira, "Whatever, Kai. He can't shoot very well."

"Are you serious??" Kira was even more astounded now, "A Necromantic Hunter and he can't shoot?"

I groaned and ignored Kira and walked away as he belted out a loud laugh. He got as much kick out of it as Kai did. As I entered the living room, I held my breath and almost screamed; the living room looked horrible since that Werewolf attacked. Some parts of the railings of the stairs were broken off, there were cracks in the wall, dried blood on the stairs, and it wasn't any better in the kitchen! The table was broken in half!!

I felt Kira stiffen as he stood behind me. I turned around and he gaped at the disaster, "What did you two do?!" he sounded more dumbstruck than angry or worried.

"Werewolf," Kai seemded too cool about it. He was just lounging himself on the couch and tapping his foot.

"You guys could have cleaned up!"

    "Well, I can't," I barged in.

    "Why not?"

I pointed down at my foot and then regretted it. What was I going to tell Kira? I can't just tell him the Werewolf tried to bite my foot off.

    "What happened?"

"Um," hundreds of poor excuses buzzed through my head and I finally chose one decent one, "I tripped,"

I heard Kai chuckle from beside me and Kira frowned at him, "I've been wondering why she's limping like she's got one leg. You should be carrying her around, Kai."

    "She doesn't want me to,"

    "Why not, Arisa?"

"Chivalry kind of makes me feel embarrassed sometimes," I blushed. It was true, since I was such a klutz.

Then I remembered why I was so anticipated for Kira to come back home. I grabbed onto his sleeve, "Hey, Kira, can I ask you something?"

    "Yeah, of course,"

"Um, can I ask you in private?"

Kira smiled down at me, "Yeah, sure,"

I looked back at Kai as he frowned at me. I tried to keep the question completely out of my head so he wouldn't hear. I glared at Kai, "We'll only be a moment. Hold your horses."

I tried to drag Kira into the study room, but my bad foot was holding me way back. Kira got as annoyed as Kai so he picked me up by my waist and held me at his side and carried me into the study room. He put me down and shut the door behind him. I made my way to a chair and placed myself in it. Kira tucked his hands in his pockets and stared at me casually.

    "So, what's up?"

"First off, how is Takeuchi doing?"

He smiled with the face of an angel, melting away my worries, "He's doing fine. Matsuda and Orihime are going to take him to Miku for a day."

I sighed in relief, "That's good,"

"Is that all you wanted to ask?"

"No, um," I fondled with my fingers and shrugged my shoulders, "You're kind of a Vampire, right?"

Kira gave me a look of astonishment, mockery, and dumbfoundedness, "Um, yeah, a little," he answered in a sarcastic tone much like Kai would have.

"Shut up!" I turned red again, "I want to ask you something that I figure every Vampire knows about,"

    "Okay, fire away,"

"Um," I tangled my fingers together, "What does it mean for a Vampire to bite his tongue and kiss you and make you drink the blood?"

I looked up at Kira and his face was blank, but anger lurked in his eyes. He looked down, "Is that what Kai did to you?"

I nodded timidly, "Yeah. He said it's to help me heal, but just by the way he's been acting, I know there's something else behind it. I wanted to ask you since you're at least half Vampire."

Kira leaned back against the wall, absorbing what could potentially be dangerous or ridiculous or anything in between. He pulled his hands out of his pockets and clenched one of them into a fist. I wasn't prepared for his sudden blow to the wall behind him. His fist was dug into the wall, lead by a deafening boom. I flinched and Kira's face turned into anger. I could hear him growl quietly as Kai does often times.

I knew something was wrong about the bloody kiss, "Kira, is something wrong?"

He hissed between his teeth, "Are you sure he bit his tongue and made you drink the blood?"

    I nodded obediently, "Yes,"

"Arisa," I could hear his jaw clenching tighter, "You don't know what it means for him to do that?"

I started regretting ever asking Kira what it meant, "No,"

"Arisa, when...," he stumbled over his words a little, "When a Vampire, like Kai, bites his tongue and you drink the blood, you two are declared engaged."

I paused for a moment, dumbfound, "I'm already his Blood Bride, though,"

"I'm not talking about being his Blood Bride," he hissed again, "I'm talking about you being his fiancée."

It took me a second or two to absorb that. I chuckled a little out of a bad reaction of anger and fear. Kira didn't seem to understand, "Yeah, right. I'm not a fiancée. It's all a prank, right?"

Before I could finish my last word, Kira was already out of the study room and in the living room. When I approached, Kai was still sitting casually and Kira was standing in front of him with his fists clenched, much like he did after Kai had told me they were Vampires when I first arrived. I held my breath and waited for Kira to belt out at Kai again.

"You proposed to her?!" Kira outraged. I had never seen him so angry before.

"Yeah. What about it?" he was being so...nonchalant about it.

"You b*****d! Do you have any idea how much more danger she's in?!"

I still couldn't breathe and I was starting to feel dizzy. Kai had proposed to me and I didn't even know it? I still wanted it to be a joke, a big laugh. I still wanted everything about this family to be a big prank. I didn't understand why Kai would do such a thing. I gasped loudly after regaining my breath, drawing both Kai and Kira's attention to me as my legs went numb and I collapsed onto the ground.
