The tears ran down my face once again. They dripped down my face and landed on my corset. I wiped the tears away with the edge of my skirt. The purple silk scratched my cheeks. I knew they could hear me for there was no talking downstairs. Just silence. I stood up from where I was hugging my knees in the corner of the attic. I could not hear my footsteps as I walked to the door. What a surprise. I stopped in front of the door. I glanced to the right. There was the full-length mirror my mother had bought so long ago. I walked towards it, taking in my reflection. I looked exactly the same as I had for so long. Pasty skin, haunted eyes brimming with tears, bloodstains showing plainly on my purple and black dress…. like I said, exactly the same.
I turned away from the mirror. I didn’t bother opening the door. I felt the wood slide across my skin as I went through it, a feeling I had gotten used to over the years. I waked slowly down the hall, running my fingertips along the wood on the walls.
The tears came again, this time soaking my corset. I was sobbing loudly, running down the hall now. I stopped and crumpled to the floor, still sobbing. I could hear them downstairs. I was scaring them. I cried harder, thinking about how I couldn't figure out who they were. I wished I could go downstairs.
I cried in that crumpled heap until they left, and stayed there crying until there were no more tears.
