CHAPTER 92 - THE TRUTH
Your future and your possible sanity is on the line...are you willing to risk it all just to tell your best friend why you ran off with a Vampire?
Chi's complexion showed disbelief at what I told her. I wouldn't blame her in the least bit. If it were the other way around, I wouldn't believe her either if she said her boyfriend was a Vampire. I couldn't keep it from her anymore; she wanted to know everything.
"A-Arisa..." she stuttered.
I stared at her confidently, supporting myself. I wouldn't lie to Chi, I never would. Lying to her would be as sinful as lying to Kai. If she wanted to know everything, then I would let her know but I wouldn't be completely comfortable with it.
Chi shook her head, on the verge of crying, "I can't do this,"
She turned away and I only followed her out of the restaurant. Kai followed shortly behind me and we kept silent as Chi turned into an alley several feet from the restaurant. Chi leaned against the wall and started hyperventilating, much like I do out of fear.
She shook her head again, "I don't believe you," she squeezed her eyes shut. "There's no such thing."
"Chi, that's what I first assumed when Kai told me," I replied sympathetically. "I thought he was lying until the night he first attacked me."
Chi's head shot up, "What?" she gasped and paused. "I don't believe you..."
My face fell, "What can I do to make you believe me?"
She was hesitating with her answer, I knew she was, "Show me proof,"
My heart skipped a short beat and I glanced up at Kai. He seemed to just be going with the flow so he probably wouldn't mind too much to show Chi what he really was. He knew we were scaring her badly but it was best for her.
"Fine," I sighed.
I swung my hair over my left shoulder and turned to Kai. He sighed and his complexion seemed as though he wanted to lecture me. One arm of his constricted around my waist and he pulled me close. His lips kissed my neck and his fangs dug in, causing me to flinch a little. I heard Chi wince and hyperventilate again as my blood trailed down Kai's throat to calm his subtle burn. I pretty much knew what Chi was assuming; she was thinking I was either already a Vampire or I would now turn into one.
Kai's other hand cruised through my hair and he was getting a little into the drinking. I gripped his sleeve and pushed him gently, "Kai, that's enough, you're scaring her,"
He obediently pulled away from my neck and he glanced behind me at Chi with blood on his lips and chin. I looked down in guilt at making Chi witness such a fright. I turned slowly and she seemed as though she was going to have a heart attack. Her hands were over her mouth and her breathing was stuttering and she was trembling.
"Chi--,"
"No, don't come near me!" she squeaked as soon as I took one step towards her.
"Chi, you wanted proof," I pointed out. "I gave you proof."
She locked her hands together over her mouth, "Wh-why are you not a Vampire?"
I smiled halfheartedly, "He can turn me into a Vampire if he wants to and it's almost because of that, that I opted to be his Blood Bride; I'm his main blood donor."
She shook her head and pushed her hair back, "Arisa, that's horrible,"
"It's really not as bad as you think,"
She paused, probably struggling with a question, "A-are there others?"
I bit my lip, "Kai's brother, Kira, is a half Vampire, there's a Werewolf named Takeuchi, two Angels named Matsuda and Orihime, another human named Miku, and there's now a half Werewolf baby named Toshihiro,"
"How is that guy a half Vampire?" she referred to Kira. "He's a full Vampire." she pointed to Kai.
"But they weren't always like that," I sighed. "They were born in eighteen thirty-two and were infected in eighteen fifty. Kira found Orihime and she stopped it halfway so now he's only half. It was too late for Kai because he was a hemophiliac."
"And how is there a half Werewolf?"
"Takeuchi and Miku have been dating for a few years...Toshihiro was born early this month."
Chi took a deep breath, "But there are Angels, right? You're safe?"
I nodded, "Yes, I'm perfectly safe. Everybody there is incredible, Chi."
"So all these months you've been living with mankind's fantasy?"
I nodded, "Yeah but...I'm not sure it will be for much longer."
She held her breath, "Why?"
I glanced back at Kai and he nodded to me in encouragement, although I could see the pain in his eyes, "Kai is bound under this contract...he has been for several months now. It's because of that contract that he kidnapped me.
"He was supposed to murder my parents, but he was lucky enough to back out. But his new order..." I bit my lip. "He's going to bring me to these two Vampires eventually...so they can devour me."
Chi winced, "Why?"
"Because my blood is strange," I looked down. "My blood can grant immortality, Chi, but only after a certain amount is consumed. There is a girl like me born every two hundred to three hundred years."
Chi dropped on her knees to the ground, "You're..."
I kneeled down in front of her, "Yes. But nobody can tell if I have one day or ten years. Nobody will know when it will happen until it's probably too late."
She peeked over at Kai indisbelief, "He's...going to kill you...?"
I bit my lip and embraced Chi. I didn't want to say anymore; it was hurting her too much. I was sure I could trust her, though, she has proof that Kai is a Vampire and probably knows nobody would believe her if she turned us in. Would she turn us in, despite that her and I are best friends?
"I'm happy you're safe," she mumbled.
"Same here," I sighed. "I'm graduating this coming weekend." I attempted to change the subject.
"That's good," she mumbled again. "I'm going back to school next year."
I smiled, "That's great, Chi," I giggled halfheartedly. "I thought you said being a Senior was overrated."
"It is," she giggled back, showing I was successful. "But I want my own life."
I pulled away and pushed some of her hair back, "You should get back to the orphanage,"
She nodded, "Okay," she probably didn't want to come with me; she's probably too scared of who's there.
"I will come by again," I reassured confidently. "Once I'm graduated and I have a car and everything, I'll come visit you."
She nodded, "Will you be bringing him?" she looked over at Kai.
I nodded as well, "Yeah; he goes everywhere with me. Do you not want me to bring him?"
She shrugged, "I don't care. He seems like a nice Vampire."
I smiled at Chi, "I'm glad you believe me,"
She bit her lip and pondered again, "Do you...think you could introduce me to everybody else sometime?"
I burrowed my eyebrows together, "Why?"
"If you've been gone this long, I'd like to know who you've been with,"
"Sure," I nodded, not asking Kai's permission. I pretty much knew he'd let Chi over; he trusts she won't do anything awry.
She breathed nervosly and averted her eyes, occasionally glancing up at Kai, "Okay,"
I stood up and helped Chi to her feet, "You should get going. We'll take you back."
"Oh, no, I can walk,"
"Chi, the orphanage is seven blocks away," I frowned.
She sighed, "Okay,"
As we made our way to Kai's car, something clicked in my head, "Uh, Chi, you might want to hold onto your seat tightly,"
"Why?"
I smiled, "Because Kai is an insane driver,"
